Obviously by age six I already was going to grow up with an attraction for girls so puberty and the "environment" couldn't be what makes a person not like the opposite sex. If that was the case everyone would be straight or bi, not gay.

Environment isn't limited to things like food, geographical region, air, etc. It's essentially everything after birth. So if you don't believe in genetics causes sexual preference, then you should naturally lean towards environmental factors.

Almost purely genetics. It is something that needs more study though.

It's certainly not a free choice, and if there was an environmental method to produce no or fewer homosexual people I'm sure religion would have found it.

You make the environmental explanation seem like it suggests specific definite factors. I think most would agree that its not like that. It's more the result of a combination of factors so complicated and delicate that we'll probably never be able to say for certain that "this factor causes homosexuality." And even we can say for certain that certain factors cause certain tendencies, its also likely that different people react differently to the same factors, thereby making the discovery of the exact causes pretty much impossible. So its not like there's a certain method that could prevent homosexuality.

Defective genes. We're meant to be made to be attracted to the opposite sex, is how a species survives. Anything stopping that is a defect.

Defective? Perhaps. But genes? Not based on that argument. Humans today do a lot of things that conflict with what we were 'made' to do, but that doesn't mean genetics are the cause. We often learn behavior to conform to society which conflicts with what we were made to do.

Here is the only way I get through life without acting on my desire towards men. I, (even though I have been told this is way off base by everyone I have ever asked) believe all men like other men more than women, and it is part of our job as opposite sex's to come together for the better of mankind. People hate gays because they are not making the sacrifice of leaving their true desire behind for mankinds benefit. That is why some say being gay is a selfish act.

In my situation I am married for the sake of a family, and following that belief. However, it would be nice if I could go out and have sex with men. I do not understand the reason this is not ok. I would never leave my wife and kids, it would just be a way of having a good time. To me it would be the same as going golfing, or hunting, but again I am totally strange. From what others have told me both, straight and gay co-workers I am no where close to normal.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Yes for enviroment but not for "enviroment". Most people who say it is the enviroment are talking about who people look up to or hanged out with, not the combination of many small events soon after birth.

So you're saying homosexuals are defective as people?  That is not cool.

No I Have no opinion on the matter.

Do you have a better term to represent post-birth factors?

70% hormonal imbalances during fetal development, 25% genetic, 5% psychological.

I think a genetic likelyhood combined with environmental factors is the most likely.
