Nintendo will naturally put a positive spin on their results. It's especially easy to do this when using percentages.

Expected? Not really. But it's not uncommon, because companies tend to mess up; and Nintendo really did with the 3DS, that's why they are still in the process of rectifying their errors. The current numbers don't mean that they are in serious trouble, but they are still falling short of their own expectations.

Yeah, they really fumbled with the 3DS... 2011 really wasn't their year; messing up the launch of 3DS and the end of Wii...

Generally sales drop off at the transition of generation to generation - this always happens, it is a part of the cycle; and it happened last gen too. The DS is being phased out, and so there are far fewer games on sale shelves now available for retail; but there are huge selections of DS games at used item shops; those are not tracked.

It's really a dread future for portables in the west.

And they're not trying very hard too.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. First off there isn't many "western oriented" games out here, and secondly, we're not getting enough games - period!

3DS really needs a good holidays period to stay relevant.

It's miles better than Vita, but that doesn't mean much... just mean it's the first loser, or something.
And all the holiday line-up got delayed... good job Nintendo.

To get a more complete picture of how Nintendo is doing. The only reason this thread is talking about 3DS sales in particular is because Nintendo's PR department is trying to spin things to look good. Why let a PR department define the conversation?

I think over the years, 3DS will be able to dominate the software sales just like the DS. But this holiday is the right time to gain marketshare and popularity.

Hope the market campaign that Nintendo announced is really good.
