one would think lilbroex would be tired of being wrong, guess not. OT, Chandler already hit the nail on the head.

Awe, passive agression. How cute. I would have to be wrong first to be tired, and history says that I'm not in this case.

The PS3 price gouging lasted only for a moment and at its highest point, it wasn't that high.

Note that I'm talking about the actual "real event results" not what people theorized would happen(like the the article the dude posted).

People certainly "attempted" to gouge with the PS3 but it was unrealistic and they got little to no sells in the short time frame that it was viable. In case you forgot the original statement was that "it works everytime". They tried with the PS3, but ,like I siaid, it didn't work. So, sorry to burst your bubble.

I would like to see someone who actually spent $10,000 for a PS3, though.

pretty sure someone bought PS3 at scalper prices, I know cause someone i know did just that. So you are wrong and it did work, just because it wasnt at the level of Wii, doesnt mean it didnt happen.

It being at the level of the other consoles what the entire argument...

No it wasn't, because anyone reading what you said would read you saying that it didn't work at all at any level, regardless of how other consoles did.  You never even mentioned the other consoles, just that it didn't work and "little to no sales" (meaning you don't know whether or not it even sold, and you assumed it didn't or only sold one or two).

Not at a single point did I say or even infer I meant any level. I don't know where you pulled that one from. If that was your assumption of what I meant then it is wrong.

Thanks for saving me the trouble.

The only way to procure a Wii U in time for the holidays at this point without getting price gouged in the second hand market is to settle for picking up one of those bundles that come with extra shit that you most likely don't want or need, but are usually no more than $100 above the base MSRP. If you're in the US, big box wholesalers like Costco and Sam's Club are a good way to go for this.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I already know that, but I was not talking about the thread. I was talkin gabout the comment I made the reply to. The comment that it is the "the same" as the PS3 is false. It will sell at a high price on ebay for much longer than the PS3.

Unless you can see the future you don't have any prove that it will remain high, so at this moment it is "the same" than happened with the PS3. Nintendo could just release a lot of extra product and the grey market price will come down as fast (or faster) as it happened with the PS3 (also demand can decrease very fast), or Nintendo could not cover demand and the price can even rise more.

The point remains, it does happens to ALL consoles BEFORE launch and it was "the same" with the PS3, the speculation now is if it will remain high for a long time or come down very fast and about that we cannot ensure anything yet.

no words.the shock of this has no face.

Anyone who pays $1499.99 for a Wii U is an idiot. Anyone who sells a Wii U for $1499.99 is a soulless bastard.

Excuse me?

A "scalper" offers a service to customers, who are more than willing to spend money to use that service. Last time I offered this service, I actually got a postcard after christmas. It was a picture of a very happy kid playing with his Wii and my valued customer expressed his sincere gratitude for my service. I guess he had that "real value" from my service.

Heck, I was so flattered of that card that I sent the kid one of my extra copies of Wii Play in return for free.

No, scalpers create or worsen a shortage to artificially inflate prices for personal profit. There is no product or service provided, there is only creation and exploitation of a problem. Without scalpers individuals and manufacturers would still be able to buy/sell products, while the same can not be (generally) said about retailers. Regardless of whether you scalped the Wii or not, someone (possibly the family you sold it to) would have bought the Wii and would have enjoyed it over the holiday season; you provided no additional benefit to the economy or society in general, you just took people's money.

All versions of scalpers are a form of economic parasite draining the host for no good. Next time you fill up your gas tank and see the prices increase think about those Wall Street speculators who are driving up the price of gas, skimming off the top while offering no value, and realize that you're doing the exact same thing.

Oh you are a funny kid. I did not provide additional benefit to the society. Guess what? You did not either, ever in your life. In fact you have been a drain for the society. No matter what you have done in your lifetime. Isn't that funny?

You sound like you did not get your wii for christmas in 2006. Boo-hoo. Grow up. :)

And last thing. I am doing exactly the same as your favourite company Nintendo. I am earning money selling Nintendo products.

The difference is that retailers and importers take their cut for providing a service to customers, while there is never any real value provided by scalpers. It is not a common thing, but I have been told about concerts that "sell out" almost instantly and then end up being 80% full, with half the people who went to the concert having been forced to pay scalper prices.

Sure we do.  We get there in line at the earliest possible time (in this case, the day of the announcement of the release date) and we buy up a console.  Regardless of if "scalpers" bought extra or not, all preorders would have sold out within the first week.  Fast forward to black friday.  The WiiU is all the rage in commercials and little timmy wants one, but everywhere you go they are sold out.  Shipments are expected at 3 am in the middle of december.  If everyone who preordered actually kept the console, you'd have to wait in line at 3 am just for the CHANCE to get one.

Now there are enterprising people who bought a console for resale purposes.  They've been holding on to their stock since the infamous preorder back in September.  Now, suddenly, when the only way to get a console was a retail price at 3 am on a tuesday night there is another option.  From the warmth and comfort of your own home, you can click a button and have the item shipped to you in plenty of time for wrapping and putting under the tree.  But this conveniece, nay even OPTION to buy at this time comes at a price.  You will pay what the market sets for the value of the console, not MSRP.

But you have that option.  In the theoretical "perfect" world, where only people who wanted the item would buy it, the option does not exist.  We enable the lazy or the less on the ball with money to burn to be able to get what they want, when they want it.  That is a service.

I have to requote this since it seems happy squirrel didn't read it, or chose to ignore it in favor of his warped and unreasonable view on console "scalpers".
