Forums - Nintendo - The 3DS hurts my eyes

When I first bought my 3DS last year along with OoT 3D, I didn't play with the 3D on at all. It didn't hurt my eyes or cause me any discomfort but I just didn't like the effect much (although it was impressive).

Now, I play with the 3D on max setting (except when playing NSMB2 with that lame blur effect). With RE:Revelations, Mighty Switch Force, Super Mario 3D Land, and even OoT 3D now, I play in full 3D and love it. I guess now that I'm playing OoT in 3D now, the effect has grown on me.

But some games are better without it. So keep the slider down if it's bothersome.

Imagine if Nintendo didn't give up the option to adjust/disable the 3D effect? Damn, that would've sucked.

I'm not trying to offend 3DS lovers, I really like the innovations the system brings but who tested this thing?  I have tried it at ebgames serveral times and everytime I crank up the 3D, my eyes literally go crossed and I feel a squeezing pressure on them.  My fiancee also experiences it but not to the degree that I do.

Out of curiousity, has anyone else had this problem?

Yeah if you crank it up and are haven't played enought to let your eyes adjust you'll have issues.  Try cranking up the brightness on your lcd tv and see if that hurts your eyes. Most games are most enjoyable to play with the 3d near the low end of the scale. You still get some depth without any strain on your eyes.

To be honest i very rarely have the 3d turned on. I dont seem to notice any clear difference when i have it on, to me it makes the games harder to me. I have around 15 games for the 3ds so its not halted my enjoyment. I have read that some people have problems seeing the 3d effect maybe i fall into that category?

Umm... I like the 3D... I think it's a great idea.  What I'm saying is how on earth was something like this missed, obviously people are experiencing the same problem

Check out my games for sale eBay and Toycatacomb

I am no writer but I try

And

Finally

I am watching you!

Quit being a little bitch and power through the pain until your body just gets used to it.

GoldenEye 007 used to make me nauseous when I played it. Did I quit? Did I cry like a Jewish kid on Christmas morning getting another damn dreidel while his buddy opens a new game console? No! I kept playing until my body was ready.

Haven't played the 3DS long enough to determine if it actually hurts my eyes only played Pilot Wings Resort for a couple of minutes at a store and it didn't really hurt my eyes and by the time I get one its probably going to be a different game I get first.

3D doesn't affect me, did you try different levels of 3D with the slider?

Yeah I tried it on the medium setting and it's ok, when I go over I can start to feel the pressure.  I can't be the only one who experiences this LOL

I think you might be the only one who experiences that. Not because that is uncommon though. I just think that the most people who experience this sell their consoles away. Just like I did.

Hey; some people can't even perceive stereoscopic imagery. And I'm not just talking about one-eyed pirates.

If the full 3D effect where the divergence point of the two separate image fields is farthest away hurts the eyes, that's what the slider is for. If the minimal effect is still too much, well; 3D ain't for everyone (one-eyed pirates).

I like the full 3D effect. My only gripe with the 3DS is the parallax barrier technology it's based upon due to the very narrow angle of effect. You really can't move your head off center much before the effect "reverses."
