Definetly, I'll make 10 million with ease. Even GT4 sold close to 200k last year.
How much will GT5 sell? (Choose the most precise answer) | |||
Over 8.5 million | 43 | 23.12% | |
Over 9.0 million!!! | 32 | 17.20% | |
Over 9.5 million | 22 | 11.83% | |
Over 10 million | 89 | 47.85% | |
Total: | 186 |

kowenicki said: It may do. It may not. Its been budget price for a long while now (its basically a $15 to $20 game) and had special editions, now its getting mass bundles. Sony are REALLY trying to ensure it gets there. |
You have over 112'000 posts apparently. Why are at least 111'990 of those posts snide or derogatory remarks about Sony?
And no: "Sony are REALLY trying to ensure it gets there." This game is fully paid for. Sony probably pays around 50c-$1 for every GT5 game bundled now. They can impress people with a bundle that only adds a few $ to their budget but looks like a fortune in stores. A wise move, everybody does it. Why do you think MS has always sold bundles in Europe with 5-7 games tacked on them during holidays?

Ethomaz, as I said to you before my prediction can easily be found on GT5's page, I predicted 8.0M to 8.5M and even said it could reached 9 million. I really don't think it's a bad prediction. On the other hand you predicted 15 million: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=3760776 Now who is laughing? |
Exactly what I expected. The game should sell 6-7 million LTD like I predicted.

It will reach it
Gran Turismo has no serious competition but games that aren't mindless shooters have it hard in this Gen.
The taste of gamers changed a lot - Kids in the last Gen wanted cars but now they want guns.
So its far more remarkable Gran Turismo 5 managed to sell that much...
You have to think - This game did cost more than 50 or 60 Million and had the money alone through the prologue version nearly completely back.
If we would still have the same gamers from the PS2 Era GT5 would have sold with ease 15 Million or more units.
Maybe people get tired of the copy paste shooters in the next years and will push Gran Turismo 6 to the numbers it deserves.
I have like absolutely no idea mean
Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Numbers are good after so many weeks since launch, and the new budget edition gave it new life, but after it missed more ambitious predictions, I didn't realize it was actually doing so well anyway, until you posted these YoY comparisons.
Let's see some possible significant goals for GT5, based on PD data.
http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/list.html
Title | Units (K)* |
---|---|
Gran Turismo | 10,850 |
Gran Turismo 2 | 9,370 |
Gran Turismo 3 A-spec | 14,890 |
Gran Turismo Concept Series | 1,560 |
Gran Turismo 4 “Prologue” | 1,400 |
Gran Turismo 4 | 11,440 |
Gran Turismo 5 “Prologue” | 5,340 |
Gran Turismo PSP | 3,610 |
Gran Turismo 5 | 7,430 |
Total | 65,890 |
Sony and PD have many goals available: if GT5 gets close to GT2, the first obvious goal is 9.5M to beat it, if it can do it easily enough, 10M becomes an obvious goal too, so yes, if it will get close to 10M, special offers and bundles are almost sure to make it reach that goal, taht would mean also 4th best selling GT title ever.
Successive possible goals aren't evenly spaced.
The first successive goal would be 3rd place, that's quite higher than 10M, so Sony won't try to reach it just because it reached 10M, but it could try if only it gets closer.
OTOH 3rd place is close to 11M and not too far from 2nd place.
So, if GT5 gets close to 10M, it's granted that Sony will try to reach it, but if it reaches it slowly, it won't try anything higher.
OTOH, if GT5 keeps on selling well enough to reach 3rd place, Sony will surely try to make it reach the 11M goal, and at that point 2nd place ever would be a far closer and easier successive goal than reaching 3rd place if it arrives at 4th at a slow pace.
So, any goal higher than 4th place and 10M will strictly depend on how fast and with how much momentum left these first goals will be reached.

Yeah, I was spot on what the game sold in its first days of sales. Again, the 6M-7M prediction was obviously without taking account of all bundles and tons of new editions that easily added a 2 million units to the LT sales. That said, it was not that bad for a prediction made two days after the game launch, at least way more realistic than 15M predictions!
Anyway that's the reason why I stopped commenting on GT5 sales: you can praise the sales all you want while never put them into context and predict some unrealisticly high numbers without problems but as soon as you bring some good points showing the sales are not that impressive some people here will automatically turn into denial mode and throw some ''lol lol lol'' comments.
The reality is that GT used to be one of the best selling franchise of the industry and now it struggle to reach 9 or 10 million. I'm not saying these numbers are bad, but they are just not as impressive as they were back in the days. Meantime a lot of franchises have expanded and reached higher figures (Mario Kart, Halo, Super Smash Bros., Call of Duty, Super Mario, etc.) while GT went down or at least did not expand as it should with all Sony's efforts (bundles, price cuts, new editions, advertising, etc.) and with the industry's expansion.

You could be right, lets see what happens.
I do find it shocking that GT5 has such strong legs. Guess Bundling really helps.

8 million would be disappointing for Gran Turismo because it would mark a record low for the franchise. The old Record low was Gran Turismo 2 which was replaced in 2 years and released at the end of the PS1's console life (It sold 9.36 million).
