I've got it. Make it so you can vote for 10 games if you want, but no more than 3 games for a single console. So even the most hardcore Sony or Nintendo fanboy will be encouraged to think of 4 games from other consoles they liked, while most lists will wind up with 2-3 games from each console.

^ This prevents users like MBP above from stacking the vote with games from a single console, while he would still be allowed to vote for only 3 games if he honestly doesn't believe that any game from another console is as good as the 4th- or 10th-best 360 game. So he doesn't have to support other consoles' games, but he is encouraged to do so.

Now that's a great idea XD

But then you're not really voting for your favourite games of the generation.  Also, to make a top 10 list from that rule, you're going to have to have owned at least 4 consoles this generation - some people literally only use 1-2 machines for gaming, so their lists just don't count or they're only allowed to list 3-6 games?  That doesn't particularly seem fair either.

I don't know how you'd deal with this, really.  Separate lists?  Working out the mean (i.e. assigning points from 10 to 1 based on people's votes, then dividing by how many votes there were)?

To me, imposing restrctions on 'what' you can vote for seems like the least productive way to do things, because then the list isn't really your favourite games of the generation, it's your favourite games for each respective console you own of the generation, which is going to differ between person to person.

If the site is biased towards Sony then you'll get a list biased towards Sony, but there's nothing you can do. That will be the true general VGC result and will show VGC's taste, you should stick with that.

Plus, I'm pretty sure there are at least as many Nintendo fans.

Honestly you're probably right about this.  The only other thing I can think of is doing the scoring system differently. Im not sure how yet but something that gives everything a similar chance

I understand that but I remember the last time we did this Killzone 2 was in the top 10.  Killzone isnt even the best FPS let alone one of the best games this gen.  I don't mind it being a little bias but I dont want it to be a landslide like it has been in recent years

I did something similar a few months ago and Skyrim won. Halo was at the top too. The problem was not enough people voted.

I don't know, you can give it a try, maybe it won't be as bad as you think.

Edit: here's what I got, I asked people to vote for their top 3 and gave 3pt to the top option, 2pt to the second and 1pt to the third.

Skyrim -12pt
Halo 3 -11pt
Uncharted 3 -8pt
Mass Effect  2 -8pt
Super Mario Galaxy -8
Demons Souls -8

Pretty balanced list. I got about 50 votes only though, so perhaps the top 3 idea wasn't good because too many games had the same number of points (as you can see with the four-way tie). Top 10 is better considering the number of votes you can get on this site, but I didn't want to repeat the thread.

I got it I think.  Post each console you own.  Then post your top 5 for each console that you own.  Once we get done with all the votes itll be pretty balanced with mutlitplatform, Nintendo, X360, and PS3 games.  That should make something around 15 games by the end of it.  Then I will make a poll/thread to where you vote for your favorite game alone.  Thise will give us our top 10 based on the results.  While yes most likely that will be bias it will not be near as bias as it originally was giving all three companies and there fans a fair chance.
