Forums - Gaming - Top 10 games of the Generation rules

Every year I hold a top 10 games of the generation where you list your top 10 games.  I'll post the scoring system below.  However I stopped doing this because of the problem where we have sony players outnumbering the nintendo and xbox players.  This has lead to bias results.  We have even had people take it so serious that they would create new usernames just to re-post there top 10.  Anyways because of all this I stopped doing it, however the generation is soon ending with the WiiU on its way.  Sooner or later the nexbox and the PS4 will come as well so I think it would be nice to have one last top 10 of the generation showing the true top 10.  Anyways I need advice on how we can do this without having bias results.  I  thought maybe you have to post what systems you own so if you only have a PS3 it will only count towards PS3's top 10, or if you have all three it would be listed under Top 10 if that makes any sense?  Anyways any ideas?

It's pretty much known now that Nintendo fans have overtaken VGChartz.

Just look at this thread. Almost all nintendo owners.

No matter what method you choose, there's going to be bias. Bias fuels opinions. If you're going to make a list that represents VGChartz, then that list should also represent VGChartz's biases.

As for rules, you can use similar rules from the thread I linked above.

My point system works like that actually.  I forgot to post it but yeah.   Anyways, I'd like to get unbias results somehow.  I know there are some people on here who have all three consoles and dont really care about something just because its exclusive but the majority isnt like that.  I want true results instead of 10 sony games or 10 nintendo games

edit lol

I own all of them. Wii, X360, PS3, PC, PSP, DS

1) Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PC)
2) Demon Soul's (PS3)
3) Legend of Heroes: Trails In the Sky (PSP)
4) The World End's with You (DS)
5) Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3)
6) Mass Effect 2 (PC)
7) Catherine (PS3)
8) The 3rd Birthday (PSP)
9) Tomb Raider Underworld (PC)
10) Sleeping Dogs (PC)

I might re-arrange the top 3-10. Or put something in I forgot. As those are all pretty close the two games that really stood out to me are the first 2.

there's like 10 more games that I can list that I don't feel match different than the ones I listed 8-10.

We aren't starting just yet lol  I was just wondering if anybody has an idea of how to get this as unbiased as possible before we do

why dont you do like top 10 nintendo games, top 10 multiplatform, top ps3 and top 360?

Most likely what I'll have to do.  Thatll still come out weird though because for the people who own all three will have to make three seperate lists

I'd say only let people vote for ONE game, and don't make the results public until they're final. Rather than the mass of Nintendo fans voting up 10 Nintendo games, you'll get them all voting for the one game they thought was best -- Mario Galaxy, Skyward Sword, Xenoblade, stuff like that. So most likely a few games will wind up with VERY high scores, rather than a lot of games having high scores. The end result would probably be Mario or Xenoblade (seem to be a lot of JRPG fans on VGC) being ranked #1, but a more-or-less even representation across all consoles.

Or maybe not. Maybe you wind up with 3-4 Wii games and 2-3 DS games. Maybe that is the proper result and we shouldn't try to resist it.

Mmm... I only own a PS3, but I think my opinion should matter to the best games in general.

What you can do is make the normal thread and have people tell you which consoles they own. At the end you can see which consoles were over-represented and randomly eliminate some of the top-12s of that console.

You can also make the votes for the underrepresented console worth more than multi-platform games.

Similar to this, but everyone just votes for their favorite game on each system that they have played on.

My Examples

PS3: Vanquish

360: Halo 3

PC: Skyrim

DS: World Ends With You

PSP: Burnout Legends

I don't own an xbox 360 or psp, but I've played plenty of games for both systems. If you haven't played any games for a system just don't post any game for that system.

PS3: Dark Souls

X360: Bayonetta

Wii: Xenoblade Chronicles

DS: The World Ends With You

PC: Diablo III
