Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why Halo 4 may be the savior of First Party Titles for MS..

As for the OP, Microsoft tried to buy up timed exclusives at the start of the generation, but I don't think it worked out well for them.  Their new practice of buying up exclusive DLC seems to be the better route.  They're trying to entice people to buy 3rd party titles on their system and it's working reasonably well.  I don't think they have to change that model for the next gen.

I agree with that.

The exclusive content is a factor to consider between one version and another plus the bundled special editions too... Call of Duty is a franchise that growed with 360 deu the deals with it with the famous bundles and special edition to boost sales.

if only first party games would count, pc gamers would have 0, damn the pc is really not worth to buy as gaming platform^^

The OP's logic is flawed and so is yours. The Gears of War series is published by MS and therefore it matters. Sony buys up developers and MS makes deals for publishing rights. The end result is the same.

ME1 is an exeption. There are always going to be special cases.

All that matters is what was published by Sony and MS.

So I do not understand your point. Geasr is not either exclusive or first-party.

Don't tell me your one of those guys who thinks that if it's also on MS Windows it isn't exclusive. Even if that were the case, only the first Gears of War got a MS Windows port. All the rest are only available on Xbox 360. But it doesn't matter. If MS publishes a title, it is essentialy theirs with an exception here or there.

Like I said. Sony and MS just go about things differently. Sony buys out devs to get exclusives. MS buys publishing rights to get exclusives. The end result is the same. Exclusive games published by them.

It doesn't matter how you define 1st party games because what really matters is if the games were published by Sony or Microsoft.

So why is Alan Wake on PC? This essentially means that is anyone is has PC sensibilities they can overlook the Xbox knowing exactly where Microsoft will go for their exclusives.

MS publishes games on MS Windows for the same reason MS publishes games on MS Xbox 360. Both a MS platforms and MS wants you to buy at least one of them to play MS exclusive games. Plain and simple.

But they already changed, they opened 10+ studios since 2010 not just for fun

Windows Live is a joke any everyone who plays PC knows it (Especially those guys playing Dark Souls right now. Hi there!). Microsoft isnt the only publisher of Alan Wake on PC. Remedy and Nordic are also publishing the game on PC.

Halo has always been the jewel in MS's crown. Whenever you see people bash Halo, remember they are the vocal minority. All main Halo titles are above 90 on meta and sell amazing

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

90% of the xbox list is garbage. No one can deny it's a fact that PS3 has a more varied and better quantity of exclusives. Also, GT5 out sold Gears 3 and will probably out sell Halo 3 and or Reach. So much for PS3 exclusives over selling, look at those Forza bundle sales :p

Are you simply suggesting that some of the Halo 4 revenues can/might be used to support new first party titles?

Well, I don't see how that wouldn't make sense. If they can afford taking more risks then that's great.

I mean that if 343 succeeds with Halo 4 then Microsoft may gain trust in newwe developers and IPs. 343 could show MS that risks can be great and rewarding. By risks, I mean signing new developers and making new IPs.

We all know that it would take a great company and a lot of trust from Microsoft to let a studio take the reigns of such a great franchise. Microsoft took the risk by having 343 develop Halo 4. Hopefully, there will be more risks in the future with new developers and IPs.

Sorry if that didn't make any sense, Thursdays are my Kyptonite.

Holy crap Horror, that was a good post. LOL @ Microsoft there. I have to hand it to them though Lost Odyssey was a great catch. They can definitely count on Sakaguchis hatred of Sony, but if Sakaguchi wants more money he knows where to go. :)
