Forums - Nintendo - EA sent ME3 on Wii U to die.

That's not how business works. EA is doing whatever they think will result in the highest amount of profit, just like every other company. (And releasing a game that they expect will sell poorly just to justify not releasing more games that they expect will sell poorly makes no sense at all. They would rather release nothing in that case.) They could have chosen not to release the game at all, and no one would give a shit since the game has been out for a while. But they expect good things to come out of this.

...Either that or Nintendo paid them to release the game.

Would they really rather release nothing at all?  Take Madden 3DS for example.  This is from a review on Gameinformer.com:

Though the gridiron action won’t get EA booed off the field, the questionable decision-making regarding the game modes will. Madden 3DS features no multiplayer or franchise modes. All you get is a bare bones season mode that doesn’t even keep track of your season stats (a feature that even Tecmo Super Bowl mustered on feeble NES technology). You can play a full season, half season, or the playoffs. That’s it. No draft, no player trades, and no contract negotiations with free agents.

In an era where millions of football fans obsess over stats, build fantasy teams, and even tune in to watch NFL combine drills, I’m not sure what audience EA is targeting by stripping Madden of its core multiplayer and franchise mode features. Nintendo handhelds may not always attract hardcore gamers, but that doesn’t mean football fans who own the devices don’t want a fully featured game.

Now, does EA think that stripping down a game like that will "yield the highest amount of profit"?  I have seen this game on sale NEW for $7.50 because the retailer is struggling to give it away.

I don't think you understood my post at all. Are you saying that EA released Madden 3DS expecting to lose money? That's ridiculous.

They made a cheap - stripped down game, expecting to gain some cash with minimal effort. That's it. A full blown entry probably wouldn't have sold too much more units anyway, so financially their decision made perfect sense: They maximized profits.

A few more thoughts (all sales numbers from VGC).

* Compelation triologies can be risky. For example Metroid Prime 3 sold 1.63M worldwide on Wii while Trilogy two years later sold just 0.66M (with no sales listed in Japan).

Just one quick correction. Metroid Prime Trilogy was planned as a limited edition print and was never released in Japan. There was definitely more demand for it than what Nintendo shipped, but they decided to stick with their decision to keep it a limited edition (possibly in order to create interest and increase demand for Metroid games). So that particular argument is invalid.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Vita's a bad example. Everyone knows Western devs/publishers couldn't really care less about handhelds

So... they also made Madden for Vita because they needed an excuse to not develop for that?  And how about the missing features of Madden 2006 for X-Box 360?

No, there's Madden on Vita because their contract with the NFL compels there be one.

No only that, like most western third party devs, they're betting much more on Vita than on 3DS.

But that bet is not that high also.

I hope that Arkham City, Darksiders 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3 on wii u will all sell 5 to 10times what ME3 will just so EA find out that they can go f**k themselves with their lazy and plain disrespectfull support to Nintendo fans.

I know i'll be buying AC and Darksiders, as for NG3 I'm on the fence, will wait for the reviews.

You should ask yourself why a company that is seeking profit would release a football game in March instead of August.

To make it a launch title, perhaps?

And why would that be a good thing for a football game? A tiny installed base combined with the time of the year where the interest in football is at its lowest point. Plus already outdated rosters.

Lack of competition. Nintendo obviously wanted to make room for third parties which is why Nintendogs, Steel Diver and Pilotwings was pretty much all they had to offer. And after all, following the DS's massive success both EA and Nintendo expected higher sales for the 3DS. A huge launch would mean huge software sales.

They expected some easy cash by developing a sub-par title selling purely on brand name, and they got it.

Why would they absolutly want that? Why release Madden 2011 in March instead of waiting and launch a better Madden 2012 in August? I'm not even sure if they did make a madden 2012 on the system. If they did'nt, that clearly prooves that they did Madden 2011 just to watch it fail and never planned on making a 2012 in the first place no matter how good or bad were the sales (but the knew they would be terrible) cause otherwise, if they planned on making other games, they had to have already started developement if they wanted to launch a other madden alongside the other versions in 2012.
