Forums - General - How to rid your friend of hiccups

A Texas soldier has been charged with manslaughter after he allegedly killed his friend while reportedly waving around his gun to scare him and rid the friend of the hiccups.

Pfc. Isaace Lawrence Young, 22, was killed Sunday evening while watching football and drinking with two of his friends, including fellow soldier Pfc. Patrick Edward Myers, according to the Killeen, Texas, police.

Myers told police that he pointed a gun at Young to scare him and cure him of the hiccups, believing that there were dummy bullets in the gun, according to the Killeen Daily Herald.

The gun accidentally fired, hitting Young in the face, according to the Bell County prosecutor's office.

Young was taken by ambulance to an airfield to be transported by helicopter to a hospital, but died in the ambulance, according to the police. He had been in the army since 2011 and was deployed to Fort Hood.

On Tuesday, the Bell County prosecutor's office charged Myers, 27, with manslaughter. He is being held on $1 million bond.

The incident did not happen on the Fort Hood base, according to a spokesman there.

I was looking for this other gun related story that happened in Texas a long time ago where was firing an old gun with a string in a creek bed with his friends.  He then walked out of the creek bed with the string still attached to the trigger, gun pointed up, and still loaded.  He then stepped on the string which caused the gun to fire shooting him in the head.  His friends then had to kill his dog because the dog thought one of them hurt his owner and went crazy.  I couldn't find that story but  I did find this article though...  It eventually led to a drug arrest too.

"A teenager is recovering after he accidentally shot himself in the penis and a testicle while cleaning a gun he had just bought, police said.

Michael Smeriglio, 18, initially lied to police and claimed he had been shot as he walked down the street in Port St. Lucie, Florida on Thursday.

But after he was questioned by police, he admitted he had done it to himself while cleaning a gun at a friend's house on Verada Street."

Also found this site which lists some pretty stupid deaths.

Are Texans really scared by the presence of guns? That doesn't seem like it would work.

First rule of gun ownership... A gun is always loaded.

Rule of gun safety - you never point a gun at anyone. Ever.

The story is really sad as it doesn't sound like he wanted to kill his friend. But even with rubber bullet, it would be a terrible thing to be shot in the face.

For hiccups, I used to get the ALL the time after dinner. I understand that they don't serve any purpose, and are an evolutionary reflex held over from when fish had gills. I wonder if that is what they are feeling when they are out of the water.

Scaring never worked for me, but I found drinking water from the opposite side of a cup would work, or even a spoon full of sugar (sometimes.) Eventually I got so I could relax that part and consciously get them to stop. It takes some metal focus and some calm time.

It is so nice to be to consciously turn them off.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

I was drinking with a friend last night and I got mean case of the hiccups after I chugged a beer (apparently the wrong way).  I probably hiccuped for 10-15 mins at least.  Eventually, I just tried the holding the breath method with mental focus.  I was sort of meditating while praying to the gods to rid me of it.  I've heard there are people that hiccup their entire life or for years.  I'd probably want to be shot in the face if I was one of those people.  I suppose there are always people that are worse off than your situation.

"How to get rid of your friends" is how I read the title at first glance....and I was right.
