Right now, trophies are mandatory for PS3 games (http://www.gamespot.com/news/ps3-trophies-mandatory-in-2009-6201444) so I guess the answer to your question would be Sony. |
oh did not know that..it's a shame
but I do have to say the comments about devs being lazy about the way they impliment trophies etc...is just gonna happen with Ninty as well. Devs are still free about how they go about doing it.
Case in point: Sound Shapes

I'm expecting the Nintendo network to be very far behind PSN/XBL.. which could affect WII u sales.. in the long run

meh it's just like one of those early threads when PS3 had no trophies.
"who needs achievements ?" etc. and when they finally got an achievement system later most PS3 gamers suddenly understood why it's so good. Not much different here. Nintendo is missing out on something great.
And even if it's there, an optional system doesn't work nearly as good as a standardized one.
Oh and PS3 didn't have an optional trophy system in 2006. That was in 2008 AFAIR.

We have evidence of Nintendo implementing them, and third party multiplats might as well implement if they think it'll actually help the game. The achievements that are there will be there for your friends to see. |
Forget it. Every single one of them crying about it failed to read the first post....and any subsequent post after that. They read the title, proceeded to ignore everything else and then posted about their ignorance....as it were.

Anyone worried it won't be similar or better than PS360 needs a reality check. (haven't read thread so this isn't directed to anyone specific)
3rd parties are NOT going to make it any different than what they do with PS360. Wii U will have all the same achievement/trophy/Accomplishments as the rest. They may not tally up for gamerpoints or trophy totals... but you'll be able to see what you got per game and compare that with others. Probably just something in your global profile for "Accomplishments" where you can show it off and get epeen.
That sucks, while I rarely go for the Platinum on PS3 or 100% on 360, I still enjoy getting achievements/trophies while I'm playing. And some games, like Demon's Souls simply wouldn't be the same with out those very specific and very difficult goals that the trophies task you to achieve. It's all very meta and something I really enjoy.
This definitely makes the WiiU a wait and see, for me. This probably pushes the purchase date back a year, so I can see exactly how the software is going to be implemented. But by then then new MS console might be available.

The trophy/achievement system is an integrated API. All data from all games are in one place, you can sum points and make gamecards with collected data. If every game implement is of his own way, without a central server, you cannot obtain all data at once (actually, you can't obtain all data never), so it makes the idea completely impossible.
No points, no totals, nothing at your profile. That means no achievement system at all. I think it's still time for Ninty to implement this, it's never to late (PS got it some time after release), so it's more like "Wii U won't have a standardised Achievements system for now", and I believe they will see that it's a commonly requested feature and implement it in a future firmware update.
Trophies and Achievements are nice extras to a game, but it's no big deal to be honest. Nintendo don't need them really
EDIt: I do go for trophies in games I really enjoy (I have 1300 trophies) but otherwise I'm not bothered

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030
Missed opportunity. Shame on you (again), Nintendo.
We need moar Zelda, now!
We need moar Unchartedzz!
We need less DLCs.
