Forums - Gaming - What can PS720 do to f*ck up Wii U's sales?

People saying the Wii U Tablet wont be the same as the motion controls on the Wii, I think you're underestimating the amount of hype people have about the tablet controller. It's deceptively simple, yet it may have a very similar effect on the people. Tablets have gained a lot of popularity since the launch of the Wii, and a lot of people who can't afford a $500 tablet or can't find an excuse to get one (who also happens to enjoy gaming) would be very attracted to this idea about the Wii U tablet gaming console.

Not only this, but about Microsoft's "Smart Glass" idea, I don't really think it will be the same at all to the Wii U Tablet. I think the Wii U will remain to be a unique experience as it had when Microsoft and Sony both released motion controlling to their consoles as well.

Yeah, releasing a more powerful console don't neccesarily mean taking the lead (PS1 and PS2 are prime examples of that; they stayed way a head despite being the weaker machine).

Having their biggest selling IP's ready after the console's been out for a year already... That's just not good =)

I'm not totally sold on Kinect, and I doubt I'll get the 720 for Kinect2 - but it's a nice addition I guess... But will it push lots and lots of systems? Dunno... And Sony doesn't have anything like that at all; Move just... failed... Hard.

Being weakest doesn't mean it is going to take the lead either. It's not just about having the best graphics either, it's about creating a noticable jump from the last console so current PS3 and Xbox 360 owners don't feel ripped off.

I don't understand that part.

As the past two holidays have shown, Kinect pushed a shit load of systems. Sony doesn't have anything like that, which is why I didn't mention them.

Sony just need to comeback to the ps1 and ps2 way. Release a system with a modest power upgrade over the ps3, make It easy to program for It, sell It for $350, and keep the Great first party games coming. If They do This They can win next gen easily.

you dont make your name justice dude ;)

releasing a PS4 with a minor graphical upgrade, that offers the exact same as the PS3 would be pretty suicidal if you ask me

There's a couple of things that prevent that from working:

First, while PS1 and PS2 were priced well, they also had a lot of 3rd party exclusives and timed exclusives compared to the competition, which was an enormous advantage that Microsoft has completely taken away from them.  And while they could release a console only slightly more powerful than PS3 and hit the $299 - $349 price, Microsoft could theoretically price a much more powerful NeXtBox relatively similar because they can easily afford the losses if necessary, and WiiU will always be able to remain cheaper than PS4.  Also, Sony's first two consoles had launch timing on their side as well, another advantage that PS4 won't have going for it.

Regarding Sony's great 1st party games, save perhaps for Gran Turismo, none of them have the selling power to move consoles like Halo, much less Nintendo's top IPs.  I mean, I love Uncharted but I don't see Sony being able to win next gen easily this way.  In fact, I see them having the hardest time next gen unless they really surprise us.

The battle is not going to be about amazing superior graphics. If say the Next XBox and Next Playstation systems release at 1080p, there is no reason why the WiiU couldn't do 720P and upscale it.

Whatever console wins next generation battle is going to have to do things that people really want, superior to the competition, if not be unique. If it is going to come down to having a second screen with touch, and the WiiU can hold its own on graphics, NOTHING Sony and Microsoft can do, particularly if Nintendo gets third-party support. If the big thing ends up being moving around the living room and interacting in 3D, it is very possible Microsoft will wrap that up, since the latest word makes it look like Microsoft will be pushing Kinect on steroids.

Nintendo very much is going to win on price again, the way things are. Big deal will end up likely being internal memory in the system, and maybe the 3D card's effects in it.

Not much PS4 and Next Box can do to disrupt or slow down Wii U. Wii U launching 12 months ahead of its competitors pretty much ensures it will win the 8th generation console sales war.

That isn't necessarily true, the 360 had a 1 year head start and the Wii still won this gen.

Nintendo and PC gamer

For the first six or seven months, absolutely nothing.

E3 might let them spread enough hype to affect sales in the enthusiast crowds, but if they don't launch in 2013... dunno. Going to be a long, uphill fight if either of them hold off longer than a year.

With a comment like that, I think you should run for President - you would get my vote.
