There's a couple of things that prevent that from working:
First, while PS1 and PS2 were priced well, they also had a lot of 3rd party exclusives and timed exclusives compared to the competition, which was an enormous advantage that Microsoft has completely taken away from them. And while they could release a console only slightly more powerful than PS3 and hit the $299 - $349 price, Microsoft could theoretically price a much more powerful NeXtBox relatively similar because they can easily afford the losses if necessary, and WiiU will always be able to remain cheaper than PS4. Also, Sony's first two consoles had launch timing on their side as well, another advantage that PS4 won't have going for it.
Regarding Sony's great 1st party games, save perhaps for Gran Turismo, none of them have the selling power to move consoles like Halo, much less Nintendo's top IPs. I mean, I love Uncharted but I don't see Sony being able to win next gen easily this way. In fact, I see them having the hardest time next gen unless they really surprise us.
