I don't think there's any extremely mayor thing they can do about the Wii U sales, the only thing I can think of that will f*ck up the system sales is a new console release from both companies, something that will obviously not happen until 2013 or even 2014.
Releasing a price cut and a new model could help but imo that will not change the sales of the Wii U in a significant way.

ps4 and 720 will be better consoles than a wiiU plus most of the core gamers will buy them, you will get early adopters getting the wiiU but will trade in as soon as ps4 720 arrives, il be sodding the wiiU off till a few years time

That's what microsoft did with the X360. And take a look at it's sales against the Wii.

I think Sony will have great visuals pcked in the PS4 - but I don't think it'll be as huge a leap as PS2 - PS3. I doubt SOny can afford to lose more than $100 per console (and probably not even that). They got more debt than they have in the bank...

Thing is, can they afford to make their new consoles so powerful that they leave WiiU in the dust, only getting gimped ports? As it is right now, developing games costs a lot - and increasing those costs, is that really the answer? As I see it only MS has the money to take a huge leap in graphics. That would mean that both WiiU AND PS4 would get gimped versions, and that in turn would mean that 3rd party developers would rather develop for those the systems (less costs and bigger install base) and nextbox would therefore get ports of WiiUPS4 games...

Most of those wii sales are meaningless, many people who bought a wii got 1-2 games then left it to gather dust, the big money is in the software.
Plus this time around nintendo don't have such a powerful feature up their sleave.
