Wii U will sell under 40m units (made on 14th September 2012)
PS Vita will sell under 20m units (made on 30th September 2012)
Wii U will sell under 7m in 2013 - I was right

They launched it at a price of $600, which is adjusted to $570 for inflation.

Remember that the Neo Geo at the time was the exact (I think) arcade harware in your console. The Neo Geo waas 10 years ahead of any other console on the market and was well worth the price, if you could afford it.

that's exactly what i was thinking when i saw people complaining that the wii was $250 so why is the wii u $300. Well i knew after inflation it was almost the same price, i would argue that inflation is underestimated as well but that's another issue. It puts the wiiu price in the same range as SNES, n64, and wii. Sounds about right to me.

Looking through the history of console releases I tend to think the high-end of the mass-market price was (probably) somewhere in the following range (meaning a console could launch at this price and not be punished for it):
NES: $200
SNES/Genesis: $250
Playstation/N64/Saturn: $300
PS2/XBox/Gamecube: $350
Wii/XBox 360/PS3: $400
At $300 and $350 I think most people who are interested in a new console will see it as a completely reasonable price; and companies could probably launch at close to $450 before people are really shocked by the price of their console.

Anyways, essentially, if a console was to be released today and do what the Neo Geo did back in its day, then we would be paying $1000.00plus for such a console. As Neo Geo logo said “The Future is Now”

To a certain extent the Neo Geo's $650 price tag was (probably) far more reasonable than a $1200 console would be today ...
My father regularly talks about how the first computer he bought my family cost more than $5000 and (with inflation taken into account) that is close to $10,000 in today's dollars. A $600 console almost seems reasonable in a world where a cheap PC is $2500.
