A console for 1,000 dollars would have to be the perfect system. Hype level spread evenly all around for every gamer. No way on this planet would I ever consider that. I would not even buy a TV for that price. Or a laptop.


Many gamers would agree with you, cause the Neo Geo I think was only bought by very rich kids. Plus there was no really need to by it since essential it was the arcade in your home, so if wanted the arcade, many people just went to the arcades. No need to by a $600 console.

Ohhh, and then there were the games that cost $200 and $300 per game! lol  Ahhh the good old Neo Geo.

To a certain extent the Neo Geo's $650 price tag was (probably) far more reasonable than a $1200 console would be today ...

My father regularly talks about how the first computer he bought my family cost more than $5000 and (with inflation taken into account) that is close to $10,000 in today's dollars.  A $600 console almost seems reasonable in a world where a cheap PC is $2500.


Yep, as technology progresses things get cheaper. I remember my first PC in about 1993 we bought for $3000. I would never spend half that much on a PC today.

The Neo Geo was awesome at the time, but I didn't know anyone who had one. They had it at the local hobby store and you could pay $5 to play it for 15 min. I just watched other people play it when I would go pick up a new NES game. I remember the car racing game showed light reflect off of the cars, I was in love, but there was no way I could buy a $650 machine when I was 10. It took me a year for my brother and I to save up for the NES.
