mainstrem buyers dont need open source os, because they are not developers, and open doesnt mean better. Open source also means more viruses, also flash is bad any good developer can tell you how bad it is for security and that was the reason why the developers of OpenBSD did not want it and Steve Jobs tougth the same and he was RIGHT.

on the size of the screen the people on apple made a cientific investigation that prooved that a screen bigger than 3.5 inches was too much for hand of a normal human, yet since steve jobs died, they are triyin to satisfy the media and they made a bigger screen to make a change and bigger dosnt mean better. But yeah Steve Jobs was RIGHT.

An Open OS is generally a good thing for consumers. Having a completely closed system will eventually lead to stagnation and a general lack of innovation. A more open system will lead to innovation, more competition and more consumer choice. Also, viruses will be created and released on anything that's been established and is popular. A closed system doen't mean necessarily mean less viruses as it depends on the company in control of that system. Apple are fairly good at keeping their iOS system secure, but I wouldn't count on them keeping it that way considering they're only one company. Anti-virus companies have already produced a range of proof of principle viruses that could potentially infect iOS and considering they near lied about Mac not getting viruses, I wouldn't trust them to keep it secure in the long-term.

@ bolded: link? Did they measure the hand sizes of everyone in the world and take an average? Sounds like marketing crap.

i dont need a link for something that came from steve jobs mouth himself in one of his presentation and their investigations are not public, but as i am intelligent enough, i belive is true because you can estimate the regular hand size of human race, hell i have seen estimations of penises size depending on race... lol

It is the exact opposite, open source os is good for everyone.  There is no proprietary crap  that will stop innovation.  The amount of viruses is much more related to the popularity of the product.

I guess their normal human was 150cm tall. lol bulshit.

yeah i agree with you, iOS (a closed OS) is getting a bit boring now, while android and windows phone seem amazing and still quite exciting compared to it. Also, nothing is virus, or hack proof at all unfortunately

@slow69

I also believe that anything 3.5" screen size being to big is crap. What if you are 7 foot or so, a phone like the galaxy note would be just right for them, as they have massive phones. I'm 6 foot tall myself and 4.3" to 4.7"on a phone, seems just right to me.

One last thing, people need to stop treating Steve Jobs like a god, he is only human himself you know. He just shows, what people can achieve, if you work for it

If this aimed at me, i'm no apple hater. If I was I would not of bought an ipod touch 64gb (not cheap!) And I know 7ft people aren't that common, but people should market their products to them anyway. And no i don't want to be a lawyer, how boring that would be! Well paid, but boring hard work. Farming would be much more fun lol

The smartphone market is fantastic. So much competition = more innovation. As consumers, we should just be happy that Nokia, Samsung, Apple etc. are in such fierce competition to have the most technologically advanced phones. Imagine what smartphones will be like 5/10 years from now...the mind boggles

For me, 3.5" is definitely on the small side. I'm in the 6'3"-4" range and have pretty big hands, even for my size.

And operating a phone one-handed, 4.3" is about the largest I can go before I struggle to reach the top corner of the display without struggling (or accidentally bumping the screen with the inside of my thumb). On my father's One X, there's no chance I can reach the top corner of the screen using one hand. That may not bother some but I think it testifies to the fact that the optimal screen size for most hands is somewhere in the 4" range and that anything more than 4.5" is sacrificing usability for screen size. Again, that's not necessarily a bad thing because your preference might be for screen real estate over one-handed operation but it's certainly not a useful feature from a pure functionality standpoint.
