Forums - PC - The original Crysis: still the best looking game ever?

Thanks to this thread (and the steam sale of Crysis Franchise for 17 bucks) I went and picked up dual GTX 670s.

I loved the first crysis back in 2009 when I played it on a GTX 470. Lets see if 3 monitors and 2 generations of GPUs make it better. :)

I thought you were out of the ultra high end triple monitor game?

I was.  I still had my 3 Dell monitors but I was using a single 7750 and an HTPC to power everything. However I saw someone debezel one of these dell monitors on the interwebz and figured I could do the same. It turned out looking really good so it made me curious if having a 0.5 cm bezel instead of 1.5 on each side is more immersive.

Well a smaller bezel can't be a bad thing with that kind of setup. Has anyone made a good no bezeal monitor yet? I know there were a few projects looking into it.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

My god that is amazing, why didn't crysis 2 look that, only bad thing is that blur but besides that I think you may be right.

I agree.

Crysis is still the best looking playable game.

Because Crysis 2 was built with the Xbox 360 and PS3 in mind, which have only 512MB of RAM and GPUs from 2005/2006.

These high-end Crysis mods are running on graphics cards from 2008 and onwards, and with 2GB or more RAM available.

No bezel free monitors. LG announced a few supposedly bezel free ones but while it has no bezel, screen doesn't go all the way to the end. About 8 mm of screen bezel is found on those.

Samsung has a few that are 5 mm and Viewsonic is coming out with a 27 inch bezel free monitor soon, but I suspect itll be same as LG.

Looks like bezels are here to stay, for now.

I just don't see the gap. I didn't mention mods and I don't think I should because they're not official. Also, I haven't found any mods that have made Crysis look better without rediculous contrast, lighting and motion blur changes that do more damage to the aesthetics than good.

Do you have any mods that make the game look more realistic without silly contrast, lighting and motion blur changes?

That comparison is pretty poor as it only uses the High settings not Enthusiest for the PC version, and crytek publicity shots.

Urrgghhh... I just can't get used to aliased shadows anymore. Even without all the additional effects, the texture resolution & filtering makes a fair bit of difference.

And that's just one area where the PC has an advantage. Never mind better textures, environments, character detail and overall use of anti-aliasing.

Not to mention screen resolution. Crysis on consoles is rendered at 1152x720 on 360 and 1024x720 on PS3.

Crysis 1 on ps3 is very impressive for an open world game, and is probably one of the better looking games on the platform.. same goes for 360.. but it is not even close to being the best looking game on ps3.. not even close..

Hmm, I have to agree it LOOKS better.. but does it play fun?  I was getting a bit dizzy from the frantic-ness of it all...

Then again, if I was an augmented war machine IRL, I would be getting dizzy on the reg I reckon anyway.

I just upgraded my rig to a 3770k with a 3gb Vapor-X 7970 with 16gb onboard, time to test this bad boy mod out :D
