1. I think the mass market will find the new consoles boring without a new control scheme or a new form of gameplay.
2. I know gamers on forums love awesome graphics but the fact is the mass market could care less. Just look at the sales of the Wii and Nintendo handhelds.
3. At least Wii U has the touchscreen gamepad and asymmetric gameplay. What new will Microsoft and Sony bring to the table?

1. The mass market didn't get bored going from the 8bit to 16bit generations, nor did they get borded going from 16bit to 32bit and so on. The Wii was a fluke and I don't think Nintendo can get that lucky again. Maybe if the new hook was true VR, but it's not.
2. Everyone likes good graphics, especialy the mass market. The fact that the Wii did so well, peaked, and then died early shows how going after non-gamers like soccer moms and grandparents only works on the short term. In my opinion all those new "gamers" who's first console was a Wii and their first and last game was Wii Sports aren't going to come back. They bought into a fad, the fad is over, in five years if they want to play a game they will just use the same Wii that will be hooked up to their TV like that old VCR that eats tapes.
3. Everything has a touchscreen now. People walk around with touchscreens in their pocket and in their bag. MS plans to put touchscreens on everyone's desktops. It's not the "Oh wow, look at that" factor that the Wii had with it's motion controls. Most people had never played a motion control game before the Wii so it felt novel. Everyone has used a touchscreen so it's not going to feel new. It will be new to Mario and Zelda, but I don't think Mario and Zelda fans have been wishing and asking that touchscreen be added to the games they already like they way they are.
All the consoles will do just fine. It's the games that sell the machines, not the machines themselves.
