Forums - Nintendo - Bethesda wary of Wii U: ‘it doesn’t support our games’

Bethesda and Rockstar really hate Nintendo. And this is not something new.

This mentality has been around since 2001 or so.

GTA Chinatown Wars was the last nail in the coffin for R*.
Bethesda never really cared. The good thing is that I really don't care for them. But GTA 4 would be sweet with the gamepad - with a map with personal annotations and some new gameplay usage, it would definitely be the best version.

It's basically because the Wii U doesn't come with a hard drive. They need a hard drive so they can patched their bugged code and sell DLC. The the core of Bethesda's problem with the Wii and the Wii U. The wait and see with the Wii U is whether or not adopter of the Wii U will use their own HD to download titles, etc.

Other than a patched PC version.  GTA:IV runs flawless on my computer now.  Anyways, yeah.  I think GTA:V would do excellent on the Wii-U though.

I get the feeling that the WiiU's story will be another of those self-fulfilling prophecies were 3rd parties refuse to make core games for the thing because they think the console won't attract the core, and therefore core gamers refuse to buy it because there are no core games, and therefore 3rd parties claim they were right when they said there would be no core gamers and so on and so forth.

Hmmm the OP doesnt say what the thread title is at all.

He said the Wii didnt support their games, which is a fact, and that development for Wii U was to be determined. He never said you wont see Bethesda games on Wii U

Ugh, third parties never have a backbone when it comes to Nintendo-consoles. Always the wait and see approach and when they are ready to make games for it, it is already too late.

Can you blame them?

Making a AAA game is a huge risk with often little payoff.  Add onto that the fact that third party core games that aren't Nintendo properties typically don't sell well on Nintendo consoles.

So 3 of us spotted that and the rest of the posters here have gone off on one.

bad journalism is bad journalism.  gaming journalism is very bad.

Yeah, I got that EuroGamer vibe as well.

Maybe some time next year we'll see The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Game of the Year Edition for the console. The GamePad could be a great tool for the game. I'm not holding my breath, but a great game is a great game (when it's working properly...). We'll see soon enough I suppose. *crosses finges*

Only because typically they've been garbage since N64, with a few exceptions.  Seriously, how many AAA quality 3rd party games can you name on the N64 or GC platform?  I can count them on 1 hand.  The good 3rd party devs left Nintendo for the PS1 due to game capacity and cartridge fees (cheaper to make games on PS1, with more gameplay options).  PS2 was already well entrenched by the time GC came out, so 3rd parties didn't make anything for it (much).  Things can be different this time around if devs get on board soon enough.  The game I'm most looking forward to on WiiU is a 3rd party game.  So is the game I"m looking forward to second.

But whose fault is that, hmm?

When third parties have actually done what they usually do (on other consoles) they generally get good to great results on Nintendo platforms. Sometimes even better than expected (Marvelous was over the moon with No More Heroes' USA sales), or stuff like Monster Hunter Tri or Resident Evil 4.

The only times third parties fail on Nintendo platforms is when they self-sabotage by half-assing it.

Though on re-reading the article, i do agree that I (and others) jumped to the negative conclusion based on the title.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Something we cannot deny is the fact that NintendoLand and NSMBU as the big launch games don't scream "core" (whatever that means) as bethesda games. I seriously doubt late ports of Ninja Gaiden, ME3 and Batman will attract those kind of people.

Edit: Although, Tekken, ZombiU and ACIII does. Maybe COD will help, too. Confirmation of some other games like Bioshock, Tomb Raider, RE6 and Far Cry 3, along with the next Battlefield will help to put to rest some fears for the future.
