Who said you couldn't be yourself? |
Me. I used to be a lot more 'jokey', but I can't nowadays because the bans I get are long as fuck, and I'm afraid mods won't understand my sense of humour. E.g. Tads12 wanting to ban me for a joke post I made which he didn't understand.
Basically, when will the bans go back down to warnings so I can be me again?!
My prediction threads:
Wii U will sell under 40m units (made on 14th September 2012)
PS Vita will sell under 20m units (made on 30th September 2012)
Wii U will sell under 7m in 2013 - I was right

Sometimes people can't tell when you're serious. It's hard to not report you for things like spamming my wall constantly a little while back, even though I told you to stop. Somethings that are jokes to you may be taken serious by other, you just need to make a better clarification between when you are joking or being serious.
It's tough to find the right balance. You don't want to go off and ban a dozen people, but being too light on moderation results in some really low quality posting across the board. I've recently become a big proponent of sending PMs when a poster does something that might have bothered some other users. Take the recent Kowenicki ban for example. While I don't believe his post was worthy of a ban, some other posters may have felt he was being purposely disingenuous. So in a situation like that, the best action would have been to send Kowenicki a message stating that others were bothered by his post but that he's not in trouble, and that he should only be more mindful of others in the future.
Open dialogue with members is extremely important. Warnings and bans have their place, but they can create a gap between the members and the moderation team. Posters should be given feedback on their boundaries and how their posts affect other users, and the debate should be civil. There's no perfect formula, but I think the cooperation within the current mod team will continue to produce consistent improvement.

Moderation histories are not reset. We don't even have the ability to do that if we wanted to, and we don't. But if you are on good behaviour for long enough, future moderations will be less strict.

Your get a reprieve for good behavior after 6 months and the bans increase as I said. The only time that a ban can be longer or shorter is if it is a really bad violation of the rules (longer) or a ver minor infraction (shorter). There are definitely guidlines. |
" after 4-6 months (depending on mod) " - direct quote from Blacksaber
Surely the moment the words "depending on the mod" are used to describe policy if suggests you don't have proper guidelines in place?
Just to clarify I am not discussing what each warning is worth in ban time but rather how long those warnings count towards you ban time.

Is that when I posted 'YOU HAVE WARTS IN YOUR VAGINA!!' on your wall like 100 times? To me, that was funny. But Moreno pm'd you and asked you to report me...which was shady, since you didn't really care...

Blacksaber is not and never has been a moderator.
The official "good behaviour" cutoff is six months, but it depends on the seriousness of the offence, the length of the mod history, and a whole host of other things. You can't have guidelines for all of that.

Yes, that was the case. It wasn't funny to me.
