True, I'm not supporting the guy, far from it. His post was terrible. But I'm not comfortable jumping to a perma, personally. Others may be, and if so that's fine, but I'm of the idea that people deserve that final warning to improve. Let's see what he does with it.

I remember once upon a time me calling a homophobe, a homophobe (because he was being a homophobe, and was a racist to boot) and Tor banned me not him :P (For calling him a homophobe).

I think it should be a two strikes system outside of the usual progression. Get done for racism/sexuality once and you get a lengthy ban and a warning. Second time its all over.

I agree with you, but I'm not sold on the idea of jumping straight to a permaban is a good idea for an older user. For sure; users who have new accounts (below 200 posts say) shouldn't be able to have a second chance, but others should get a weighty ban and a final warning, similar to pornographic content let's say. 

That's just my opinion; and it's the approach which was taken here because it's totally unacceptable. I see Starcraft also has a similar idea.

Pretty much. For new users (less than a certain amount of posts, say) then that's fine, but for longer, more established users having a "two strike" system as Star called it would work best IMO.

Why would it be unfair to permanently get rid of a racist?
