This is what happens when you spy on other threads and don't post in them! Hope you have learnt your lesson.
Take a picture guys. It'll last longer.

Fusioncode said: I know this might be a shock for you to hear Cone but people know that moderators have the abillity to ban people. Unless it's a brand new user but they're usually a flamingweazel alt so it doesn't matter. A "preventative measure" sound a lot like what's happening in Ferguson right now. With an army rolling in and terrorizing people because they might do something bad. If a thread gets out of hand then feel free to step in and wave the hammer around. I've been banned multiple times for that and haven't complained because it was my fault. Now I looked through the convo in the Xbox thread and I didn't see anybody breaking any rules, well until endimion called shinobi a retard but I believe that was after you and starcraft felt the need to pointlessly warn people. |
I didn't warn anyone. I made a joke to try and cool things off. Ineffectual sure, but only because Shinobi (who had never been banned) didn't get the reference.
For those wondering, I posted a novelty ban hammer.
Regardless, as Cone pointed out, none of this was why Shinobi claimed he asked for a ban.
starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I think the best way to go about it would be moderating followed by the post in the thread to tell people to chill. Even if a discussion is heated it can still end well. We shouldnt try cutting out sny heated stuff. |
I don't necessarily agree. If you read this thread: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=188402, you'll see a (rather pointless) conversation between tbone and pavolink which was headed the wrong way. Neither of them broke the rules but given their history together it wasn't going to end well so I posted in order for them to cut it out before one of them resorted to insults. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6582106

In this case tbone and pavolink have a long history, so yeah, I can understand that one. Tbone was on the borderline with his posts too.
I thought the original complaint was just mod warnings out of nowhere though? Threats of bans and/or locks? Am I mistaken?

I don't read the Xbox Empire thread but according to JayWood's post that didn't seem to be the case in that instance but yeah going into a thread that's going along fine and proclaiming "I AM THE MOD HEED ME" is unnecessary and damaging to the discussion.

Indeed; Jay summarized the scenario pretty nicely. Just saying anything to defend yourself is bad for sure.

I wasnt talking about JayWoods post regarding shinobi, I was talking about Hynads original post that started the conversation. He feels that some of us (I assume) are flexing too much muscle when it doesnt need to be done. The bolded part more than anything.
Hynad said: Some of the new mods have the tendency of feeling the need to tell people they're in power. Even going to the extent of pre-emptively calling out people over things that haven't happened yet. It derails the threads needlessly, and comes off as nothing more than them flailing their "I'm the boss" flag. We don't need to be reminded that they can lock a thread or moderate people if it degenerates. We all know there are mods on VGC. I guess some will argue that it is all done to make sure the tone of the threads remain civil and whatnot, but that's not the way it comes across, based on the reaction of some users here. |
