Probably the only thing that annoys me as much as doom are the victims who mention it long after it has lost its relevancy.

Anyway, the 3DS wasn't doing well in the past. So people made the prediction that it wouldn't do well. Mystery solved.

A machine is only as good as the sum of it's parts... I don't know how nintendo is going to replace a ds lite hardware revision with something new, but at least next year they have their potential peak year. 2013 is the final hurdle that determines if it will ever come near the original DS.

3DS will benefit slightly from the Vita decline but the culmination of all the evergreen software in addition to new games like monster hunter 4 and whatever nintendo has for next holiday must be mammoth

According to that sales thread with graphs, it is doing BETTER than the original DS everywhere but in Japan.

3ds is amazing... it's just weird that it didn't hit the 100k margin weekly sale in USA considering the release of 3ds XL... still a great force...

Indeed. It makes no sense to me.

1. This is only a temporary boost due to the 3DS XL. Sales are to fall to near PS3 levels in a couple of weeks.
2. No, Nintendo isn't failing with the 3DS,but it isn't selling as well as Nintendo hopes.

Nintendo 3DS is by far the best selling console in a declining video game market. Only thing keeping up the market is yes the 3DS. Idk why their is so much hate on the 3DS when it is the one keeping the video game market strong.

NSMB 2 plus 3DS XL.. still think it needs more games in the West. I don't think they have a good holiday lineup in the West, so I don't think it will sell as well as last year

Most of the time people analyse the videogame market they compare the worst case scenario of Nintendo to the best case scenario for their competition ...

Essentially, if the growth in the smartphone market acceleratesand people in developing nations start spending a weeks wages on a game for their smartphone then the smartphone gaming market will kill off the handheld gaming market. There is never the consideration of the growing level of piracy on smart phones, or the concept that people who haven't bought a smart phone yet are the least likely to pay for apps, or that most people willing to spend more than $1 on a smartphone game are already buying smartphone games that cost more than $1; and the market is really not that healthy yet.
