A machine is only as good as the sum of it's parts... I don't know how nintendo is going to replace a ds lite hardware revision with something new, but at least next year they have their potential peak year. 2013 is the final hurdle that determines if it will ever come near the original DS.
3DS will benefit slightly from the Vita decline but the culmination of all the evergreen software in addition to new games like monster hunter 4 and whatever nintendo has for next holiday must be mammoth
