Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was the satisfying closure of a stellar trilogy and Metroid Prime Trilogy was nice fan service. The first two games with improved controls and loading times and all three games on one disc for a fair price. Metroid: Other M being a disappointment doesn't mean that suddenly everything was bad for fans of Metroid. It's not like things were all rosy on the GameCube either; for example, Donkey Kong only got a bongo-controlled 2D platformer that pales in comparison to the Wii's Donkey Kong Country Returns. The Donkey Konga games were spinoffs that didn't make up for the lack of a proper Donkey Kong game either. Was the Nintendo 64 a failure for the Nintendo core gamer? It didn't have a single Metroid game, after all. The sequel to Mother/Earthbound got delayed again and again before it got cancelled entirely, only to later on appear as a Japan-only GBA game. The point being that not every single IP makes an appearance on every system and that in and of itself doesn't make any system bad. Excite Truck was a great arcade racer on the Wii. It was light on content (it was also a launch game), but it somewhat compensates for the lack of F-Zero. Sin & Punishment 2 is a pretty good replacement for Star Fox. Kickass railshooter action. The Wii had Xenoblade Chronicles, a second 3D Mario game and a 2D Mario game. What did the GameCube have to compensate for these? |
Excite Truck looked fun (I haven't played it, but have seen all the videos), but nothing replaces F-Zero to me, especially not semi-comedic Exite Truck. I played Sin & Punishment 2 and I found Starfox a better and a more interesting IP in general.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was a great game, I loved it, but it did nothing like Metroid Prime did for the cube. Retro was tired of working on the games (they stopped making them) and lost some of its lead engineers at the time of the 3rd one. Then prime just stopped and we got Other:M (which this far in the game, I haven't played much, I did not like).
Xenoblade Chronicles I believe is a true gem of an IP and game to have on your system (I haven't played it either but that's for reasons of my own), which is a point in your favor, and the Last Story is another coveted IP. However the cube had Tales of Symphonia, Skies of Arcadia, Fire Emblem and Crystal Chronicles.
Donkey Kong Country Returns wins on the Wii, another fair point. Then again it could have been a bit more core in style (as compare to the original and other games in the core genre, this is something we've gone over: vibrant colors and certain input types, like swinging for pounding the ground). The cube had 4 swords. Pretty comparable, though DKCR is a better game in general. True, in this category of top quality cartoony IPs, Wii also has Punch Out.
I think it's debatable, but in general the cube wins.
RE4, Rogue Leader, Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Twilight Princess (a cube IP, honestly), Eternal Darkness, F-Zero GX, Star Fox Armada (could have been better, skipped it), Viewtiful Joe, RE0, Wind Waker and more. In general it's a much more core platform.
The Wii had a handful of great core games, but not enough as compared to the cube, and certainly not enough for the leading video game platform of the generation.
I may be wrong, and to be honest you have much more experience with these libraries than I do, but there is what I could come up with in my limited knowledge.
