With all this talk about the speculated technologly involved with the next Sony & Microsoft console, when will we hear an official announcement? The WiiU was first revealed at E3 2011. Nintendo showed us more at E3 2012 and we still won't have an official announcement about a release date until September (possibly). Will Sony and Microsoft be as secretive with their consoles as well? Will they also take as long to finally release it after revealing it? If that holds true, we may not even see the next system until 2014. Now, both companies do things differently than Nintendo, so, they might reveal and release their respected systems a bit quicker. Or are they waiting to see how the WiiU does in the marketplace before they decide what to do next? I feel the only reason we've heard things about the next gen systems is because Nintendo is releasing theirs. 

IDK but the industry is rapidly dying due to consoles being on the market far too long.

We need next gen as soon as possible

We'll get teasers at next year's E3 with full unveils later in the year or in 2014. The longer the better, IMO... I'm not spending $400-$500 on another console that's only marginally better than PS360, which is exactly what we would have gotten had Sony and M$ (in an alternate reality) actually listened to a tiny minority of fanboys and released new consoles at the end of this gen's 5 year cycle which would have been this past holiday season.

What current games out there can you not play on current gen consoles? Battlefield 3 in 1080p @ 60fps? Yeah, here's my $500, where do I sign up for that? Might as well just buy a gaming PC at that point.

Next E3 for the new Microsoft console since Activision had to release a court document about some game release schedule and it said that it should be out by next holiday bar any unexpected delays. Sony is in a big hole and kind of wants to make this generation last a full ten years instead of overlapping like they did with the PS1 and PS2. I hope next E3 but it will probably be the TGS after the next E3 so they don't get overshadowed by the competition.

I don't think Microsoft will release any news until the Nextbox 720 is within 6 months of being on the market. What we saw with the Surface reveal is that they can be surprisingly good at keeping secrets. A new Kinect that be even better than the 'Project Natal' we saw first demoed should drive even more casual/dance/fitness games. Plus it will be all new and shiny with some major new games for the hard core.

I think Sony will give us more hints, and 'promises what it can do' kind of speeches. They might give us a year of teases, if they think it will hurt competition. But unlike the PS2 gen, they are no longer THE big major game in town, so I think it will be a spring reveal, also with not much more than a 6 month window.

For a both I think any news of a new console will hurt their sales. I think Xbox more than Sony, but that's just my opinion. The PS2 continued to sell very well even after the PS3 release.

I think Microsoft will hold their own event for the reveal.

It will be fun and interesting when we actually start learning and hearing more! (Although, I do find it odd that we still don't have much on the WiiU stats.)

We'll see Sony's at next E3, Microsoft could reveal at CES or at their own thing, or also at Next E3.

Neither Microsoft or Sony want to be the first to break cover. They also don't want to harm this years Xmas sales by informing consumers that the consoles they buy will very soon be out of date. I reckon there will be an official announcement from one of them in Jan/Feb 2013...

ughhh it's good they are waiting until it's a bit closer to the release. Not doing so was one of the biggest PR Fuck ups for WiiU. It ended up botching two E3 presentations for them.

We all know now that Sony is working on games for the next console. So next E3 is a definite yes. The only question is if they would hold one of their 'Japanese meeting' events to unveil it or just wait until E3 itself. Either way given how many unknown projects they have at the moment they will have plenty to show off and build hype around E3/TGS/GC '13

The sooner the better. This gen already feels stale and decrepit. It's been great, but it's time to move on.
