Forums - Sony - Was the PS2 really for Everyone?

So Fifa doest appeal to casual? What about the soccor fans that couldnt care less about any game but like to play their team. Yes people do go out to buy a console to play just one type of game, they are the casuals.
Every year cod sells well while the hardcore whine about why a copy and paste game sells so much, well that is because casual people like to have a few rounds and wouldnt waste their time playing any other game. A casual gamers are people that game every now and then for fun. They dont take it seriously.

There isnt some rule that defines the casual crowd, Any nintendo fan that bought wii sports or just dance automatically becomes a casual gamer? Likewise any casual gamer that goes out and buys halo reach automaticaly becomes a hardcore gamer?

So in essence what you are saying is every platform appeals ot everyone?

Im done trying to convince him. Its like he's sat there, fingers in his ears just saying "lalalalalalala".

Phenom. Youre lost. Its time for you to convince me that the PS2 wasnt for everyone. At the same time, you can try to convince me that the Wii is for everyone.

Instead of trying (and failing) to argue against other people, its time for you to put your point forward in a way other than "Because I said so!".

Why not just leave if you are going to just ignore what i put in the OP? I said point out one legit casual game that did well on PS2. Are you trying to convince me the same people that bought Wii Fit and Just Dance are the gamers that owned GT, Madden, GH lol. Like i said you have no proof what so ever. The PS2 has no high selling casual game because it had a tiny casual userbase if one existed at all. Thats my proof, now its your turn.

It doesnt NEED one game to do so many copies. It had HUNDREDS of other "casual" games that sold over a Million copies.

If youre so intent on pointing out the Wii has huge sellers for "casuals"... Point out to me 5 games that aren't "casual" on the Wii that sold over 5 Million copies.

Thats not the point of the thread, you are just letting your butt hurt get to you. I don't care about how the Wii did with "core" games. I asked how did the PS2 do with "casual" games. Here i'll make it alittle more simple for you, when the Wii did well in the nursing homes, the "soccer moms", the teenage girl that plays Just Dance, what did they purchase on the PS2? You guys are naming sports games lol. The soccer moms playing Wii Fit bought Fifa years ago? Really? The point of this thread is the PS2 didn't succeed with everyone as you guys claim because the Wii nearly created its own market. What makes it even funnier is how the PS3 has all of those sports games you guys claim that were bought by the casuals on the PS2 and yet the Wii outsold the PS3 easily. So how are those games appealling to the casuals if they decided to buy a Wii this time when the casual support clearly went to the PS3.

The Dance Dance Revolution series sold over 11 Million units on PS2.

Singstar games sold over 16 Million units on PS2, with a lot of data missing for a lot of games. Probably closer to 20 Million units.

The EyeToy sold over 10 Million units.

There you go, phenom. "Casual" stuff sold on the PS2 :O

Thank you, I see you finally found something. Ofcourse this looks terrible compared to the Wii's casual game sells but the Wii's core game sells look horrible compared to PS2. You realize since the PS2 underperformed in the casual department compared to Wii and you claim casual stuff sold on PS2. Since underperforming is ok, then the Wii underperforming in the core base is ok and it will also be considered a console for everyone. Thanks again.

Somewhere in this thread, the OP called me butthurt over the PS2. The thing is, Nintendo is my absolute favorite gaming company and Sony is my least favorite. Unlike the OP, I'm able to love a developer and still acknowledge when the commpetition does ssomething well and when my company of choice does something wrong.

This is the internet buddy, i could make things up to.

What did I make up?

Claiming Ninty is your absolute favorite gaming company. Here ill give it a go. Sony is my absolute favorite gaming company and i absolutely loved the PS2. See I can do it too. :)

I don't get you.

I get you.

You dont get it. How many times.

IT DOESNT MATTER HOW MANY UNITS A SINGLE GAME SELLS.

Its the library. The number of games that reach and appeal to a certain market. The number of games in a genre that can/do sell 1 Million copies, or even 500k copies. I told you earlier, you cant really define a "casual" game. YOU are trying to define it as something that appeals to OAP's and little girls, which is wrong. What makes Wii Sports different to FIFA? Wii Sports has Bowling, Boxing, Baseball, Golf and Tennis. All are sports just as competitive as Football.

Explain to me how boxing is casual, but Football isnt. Please.

I love the fact you constantly ignore Wii Fit and Just Dance. All you can do is try to convince me the people that bought Wii Sports were buying Madden and Fifa. I dont know if you have noticed but shouldn't those game sells be much higher? Wii Sports has sold some pretty massive numbers you know. Maybe the buyers of Madden and Fifa are completely different and you are just desperate for something on the PS2. This isn't about those type of gamers, this is about what did all those mom's and daughters that bought Wii fit and Just Dance, what did they buy for the PS2? Fifa? Madden? You had something with Dance Dance Revolution and then I called them a failure because they underperformed compared to the Wii's counterparts, something I learned from Sony fans when a Wii game underperforms compared to its PS3 counterparts. I'm only calling those games what the media and the fanboys have labeled them. I know its the library, those hundreds of casual games the PS2 has are all made up by you. You are just labeling games that don't even recieve those labels and are obviously not the people buying Just Dance annually.

Oh I'm not upset, but i'll try to keep it civil and to the point.

A dancing game that sells a Million copies is not a failure. If it was a failure, there wouldnt be several other games in the same series being released on the platform.

What about Wii Fit? Its a genre that never really got started until this generation. Technology really wasnt good enough until this generation. Consoles before this gen were incapable of creating a good enough experience to sell to a big market.

Using Fitness is silly.

Those mums and daughters bought a pink PS2 with Buzz, Singstar, Dance Dance, Crash Bandicoot, Finding Nemo, Spyro, Spongebob, High School Musical, EyeToy, Shrek, Sims, Simpsons, LEGO, Disney... Etc.

The problem you have is you think these "mums and daughters" only play certain stuff. They dont only play dancing games and fitness games.
