Gamestop still credits the PS2 today with being a source of profit. The Wii cannot even breathe in its direction. That was a casual sales console (despite having a couple gems), period.

No it wasnt a casual consold, you Sony fans just cant accept it. Anyways good for Gamestop, how about the company that actually makes the damn thing, how have they been doing these last couple of years lol?

I have to seriously beg to question the sanity of your post  if you believe a console can sell 150 M plus without strong casual backing (im talking a good 85% here as well). Think before you type. The core and intermediate gamers are not enough to back up the sales past 20-45 M combined. They are an extreme minority. Gamestop has reported that they are still selling PS2 used games. You know...the games Sony and third parties wont see a dime come back to them for?

I have to seriously question the sanity of someone that thinks selling 150 million automatically believes it was backed by the casuals. Where are the fitness games, why didnt the dancing games do as well as Just Dance. The singing games didnt do that well either espicially with a userbase that massive. Maybe you should accept if you combine the 360(before Kinect) and PS3s userbases, well you pretty much have the PS2. Selling PS2 used games proves it has casual appeal lol, yea try again.

...Wtf are you talking about? Are you just typing just to type?

Edit: That was rude of me so no i wasnt just typing, reread the post.

Just leave.

By ruling out casuals as the majority of the buyers of the PS2 you made your comments not really worthy of responding to. I wasn't demanding a lot of intelligence from you, but I see zero sensibility will be achieved here.

By assuming it was the casuals you made your point in coming here pointless. You with the rest of the Sony fans came to show precisely no proof and just name the PS2 the almighty one lol. Carl named a bunch of games that wouldnt be considered casual today(GT, NFS) or just named the casual games the PS2 did have that flopped(Eye toy, Sing star). Seriously is it that hard to accept the PS2 pretty much dominated the core and thats it. Where are the stories of the PS2's in nursing homes or the PS2 appearing on Oprah lol. All the casuals know is the PS2 had GTA, the most infamous game of them all. You guys come with nothing and expect me to just accept it. I dont care about the PS2's success, its apart of the past so now ask Sony to repeat it. Do you guys miss success that much? You have to constantly brag about a past success because you have no success today lol. Wow do you see Ninty fans still bragging about the NES or Gameboy. No because we have current success(DS, Wii, 3DS) and future success(WIIU). You have current failure and future failures to worry about.

Im sorry... What? The PS2 wasnt for everyone?

It had games of all genres for all ages. Its sold over 1.5 BILLION units of software, you think that was all for the "hardcore" crowd?

Looking at the top 100 selling games on PS2 I see Golf, Dancing, Sims, Football, WWE, Simpsons, EyeToy, Need for Speed, Crash Bandicoot, Madden...

Despite Wii Sports being bundled to hell... The top 200 PS2 games have sold 30 Million more than the top 200 Wii games. Another thing - The PS2 has 133 2 Million sellers. The Wii has 140 ONE MILLION sellers. The PS2 has 325(!!) ONE MILLION sellers.

To say the Wii had a more varied audience because some games sold 20-30+ Million is stupid, when the rest of the library is lagging far, far behind. Take a look at a "casual" genre - Sports. T

he Wii's top 200 sport games, including the 80 Million from Wii Sports - 267M.
The PS2s top 200 - 244M WITHOUT 65 Million bundled games. Next, lets take a look at a genre the Wii excels in.. Platformers.

The Wii has sold 80 Million platformers. Worth noting that over half of this number comes from 3 Mario games...
The PS2 has sold 77 Million platformers.

The Wii has sold 53 Million racing games.
The PS2 has sold over 157 Million racing games.

Party games really (misc, according to VGChartz) is the only genre where Wii destroyed the PS2. The Wii sold over 180 Million of them. 80 Million more than the PS2.

I could go into other genres. Fighters, Action, RPG, Shooters... But I really dont need to. The Wii numbers are pathetic in comparison, its pointless showing the 2 sets.

The PS2 matches the Wii in the "casual" market, and destroys it in the rest. The PS2s library pretty much destroys everything the videogame market's seen. Correct me if Im wrong, actually... But hasnt the PS2 sold more SW than the N64, Gamecube and Wii combined?

I could do exactly what you just did, but no need, you just proved the Ps2 is a failure lol and didnt prove it is for everyone at all.

1. the Ps2 had nearly every gaming company supporting them and yet the Wii still had more explosive sells with only ninty backing it. Ninty was able to do what sony and every 3rd party in the world did by themselves, that makes the Ps2 a failure if anything

2. How does it selling 1.5 billion games proof of casual gamers lol? It doesnt prove a thing, you named a bunch of games that arent even casual and added them all together.

3. Try again

1. Almost everyone was backing the Wii, but they couldn't capitalize on the new hardware. The majority of the games were utter crap shovelware. People today are still finding gems in the PS2 library that they've never touched.

2. You're lost. Sony had the casuals, the hardcore and the intermediate gamers. Essentially they had their hand in every social bracket in gaming and that is essentially the only generation where this was accomplished. I highly doubt that any console will have this success for a very long while.

3. You never made a proper argument against what he was saying.

1. "Almost everyone was backing the Wii" I stopped reading after this.

Outside of PC companies who didnt support the Wii then? Make your point. The Wii has more third party titles than the 360 and the PS3.

Who didnt support the Wii isnt the question, the question is which franchises did the Wii recieve. You call support throwing the Wii a bunch of shovelware. Dont confuse this with me complaining, i pretty much only play Ninty games so i could careless about the shovelware but no thats not support. You are one of those same people that claim the Wii needs third party support and thats why it has fallen behind so stop just making stuff up. You and me both know the Wii didnt recieve anywhere near the support the PS3 or 360 did, let alone the PS2.

This is a post worthy of responding to and I am definitely with you in feeling like the third party support wasn't "Support" at all. Really and truly if you want to know what I think, the third parties saw the Wii as a gimmick and wanted to get a quick buck from it so they sold cheaply  made licensed titles for a quick buck on it. The majority of its major appeal would be in the west (including America) where it would achieve extremely high sales then drop off of the face of the earth. This in retrospect, I believe was their frame of mind. The PS2 had shovelware, but they at least respected the goals of Sony enough (much like they did with the consoles before that generation) to make proper games for the console. Also, the PS2 had region focused titles for the west and the east. It was about even back then, now all those eastern focused titles are primarily handheld. The Wii got support but the majority of it was just the wrong kind of support, sorry to say.

I agree with most of your post but the part the Wii "dropped off the face of the Earth", this would come from a Sony fan. The Wii is outselling a newly released platform and is selling as well as the PS3 did in its beginnings so no, it hasnt dropped off the face of the Earth. It will next year when the WiiU kills it for good, but it has served its purpose and will still win this gen so who cares.

Pretty much. XBox and GC were very niche when you compare the numbers.

It's just that simple.

A newly released platform. Are you speaking of the Vita? Well...everyone knows why the Vita is failing:

1. Android/Iphone market

2. Lack of games

Anyway, The "dropped off the face of the earth" remark is based on any gimmick. It has extremely high sales, then it just drops without warning after the product has exhausted its novelty. The Wii's novelty wore thin, especially after the Kinect and the Move came out. The Vita's sales are the way they are relation to the Wii because essentially no one cares. Come the Wii's Launch the only people profiting off of the Wii will be Gamestop. Nintendo doesn't keep consoles going for a decade like Sony. They don't put the resources into it and I doubt they even want to. The Wii U is a tribute to my confusion with Nintendo whom is desperate now to gain the core that never latched onto the Wii by providing the games that technically couldn't become available on the Wii. In the case of most of those games it will be too late. The first year of the Wii U will be rough unless Nintendo can provide believable launch titles.

Also, I am not a Sony fanboy. I side wherever the games I like are. If I did I would've wasted time arguing with you over the validity of the Vita, Move and any other Sony products I didnt buy because they had no games.

Somewhere in this thread, the OP called me butthurt over the PS2. The thing is, Nintendo is my absolute favorite gaming company and Sony is my least favorite. Unlike the OP, I'm able to love a developer and still acknowledge when the commpetition does ssomething well and when my company of choice does something wrong.
