Forums - Gaming - Nobody disputes that Sony can't possibly do 4K resolution for PS4

It shouldn't be too much of a problem for next gen hardware from Sony or Microsoft. Or at least I hope not. I know it will take a great deal of computing power - but that's what next generations in hardware are supposed to be. But will TV manufactures jump to 8k and skip 4k all together?

Sony plans for 4k blu-rays and to make 4k TV early next year. A nicely upscaled 1080p signal on a 4k set would still look rather nice.

4k 3d could look, very, very nice.

When the Xbox came out, with all games running at 720p from launch, there weren't too many of those kind of TV's out there.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!

Around the Network

They CAN do it, but not for games, and the affirmation has never been about games so everyone think is possible. They already have a Blu-ray player in the market for 250 dollars that can upscale up to 4K, so why not?.

IF they say that they CAN do it FOR GAMES, then you will see people disputing the issue and scream at each other and all hell breaking loose.

The title of the thread gave me a migraine.

Nintendo getting hammered for claiming 1080p?

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Mainly because support for 4K resolution isn't the same as claiming it can run games at 4K resolution. It's the same as PS3 and 360 claiming to support 1080P when virtually no games run at this resolution natively.

People are debating Nintendo and WiiU because people expect it to run current gen games at 1080P and at 60fps. Considering modern PC hardware it's not a totally unrealistic expectation but currently no clear cut evidence exists to prove it can.

I would say it's a combination of two things:

1) People/the media enjoy criticizing Nintendo more since they stand on higher ground following this generation.

2) It's pretty damn obvious that it can't.

Neither of those

Both.

or

3. Ninty fans are getting so paranoid now they are starting to see things :P

I mean really, no one in their right minds would say the 4k bit is about the games..it's about movies etc. No double standard here.

No, you misundestand this situation. How the hell would support for 4k push the price sky high?

I think he is trying to tell you that a PS4 at 599 dollars could support games at 4K (maybe PSN ones).

Both.

I'll repeat myself:

"That's not what is going on. Everyone knows Wii U can do 1080p...the question is if the games will run at that resolution because so far we've seen very few that appear to do so. PS4 would not run games at 4k."

Supporting 4k resolution for movies and pictures is not that hard to do. For games however, you'd need extraordinary power.

And both me and Galaki were talking about the games.
