Ok, lets play the RAM game...If the rumors are true the Wii U will have 1.5GB-2GB, that means between 25-50% of the amount of rumored RAM of the PS4/720.
For comparison reasons:
The Wii had only 17% the amount of RAM of the PS3/360.
The PS2 had 56% the amount of RAM of the original Xbox.
The Dreamcast had 37% the amount of RAM of the original Xbox.
So I think there will be a big difference, but not a generational one, and also price can play a big factor.
The amount of RAM for the PS3 is 14 times the RAM of the PS2
The amount of RAM for the 360 is 8 times the RAM of the original Xbox.
With the current rumors the amount of RAM of the PS4/720 is between 8 and 12 times the amount of the PS3/360, but that leap had a cost, the consoles were sold between 400-600 dollars AT A LOSS, now the question is... Will/can the companies sell their next gen console at a loss again? if not, how much of a big leap can happen with a reasonable price (thinking 400-450 is reasonable). What happens if we had additional technology not related to the graphical power of the console, like a Kinect 2? Will they reduce the graphical power to keep the console cheaper? or will they increase the cost of it to keep the graphical power high?

Speak for yourself, I enjoyed the Wii the most out of all the current gen consoles.

Same here.

Er... actually, while 1.5 is excellent compared to current gen, it could gradually become less comfortable next gen (although the difference won't be as dramatic as the Wii RAM is compared to competitors).
Obviously exclusives will be fine for the whole next gen, the only possible problems will come from multiplats.
1.5 GB of RAM is more than enough to enable 1080p with all graphical bells and whistles enabled. See GeForce GTX 580.

Its firmly attached to the the level of visuals be seeing for the last few years. It annoys me that most nintendo fan want to believe that everyone with something to say other then praise is automatically a nintendo hater, they are simply people with valid opinions; The Wii U is not cutting edge tech. Of course time is a consideration because what was cutting edge and impressive in 2008, no longer is in 2012. Thats how technology works. I'm buying the Wii U at launch but I don't feel any need to pretend or delude myself into thinking thats its a graphical powerhouse that will usher in a new era of animation, lighting, physics, A.I etc. Until Nintendo shows Starwars 1313 or a game of the graphical quality running off the system, then we should all just except the fact the Wii U is simply a minor graphical improvement over the current gen consoles, similar to gamecube vs wii. |
Star Wars 1313 is trash that runs at 24FPS on Xbox.
Battlefront 3 ftw. Oh wait, Lucas Arts is a retarded company that doesn't like making money.
seems good , can't wait to see what developers do to use this extra power and the extra screen
Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

The wii was my fav console between 2007-2008. Zelda, wii sports, metroid prime 3, super mario galaxy, mario kart, okami, re:4 wii, super smash bros.
Although both okami and RE 4 were ports I hadn't played the orginals so that just made the openning years of the wii even more amazing.
