I talked to a few Nintendo Power guys at GDC. They were downright negative of Nintendo. Was kinda surprised, since I grew up idolizing the staff at Nintendo Power. I still have about 200 issues of the magazine at my parents house. Had my entire bedroom wall plastered with about 40 posters that came in the mid-90's issues.


In late 2007, Future US took over Nintendo power (Nintendo had done all previous issues). The editions you remember as a child and the staff you remember were most likely not the same people you just spoke with.

Oh, I'm sure. The people I saw were my age. I began subscribing to NP when I was like, 13.

Kinda sad, loved it when i was a kid, still have the 1st issue (or whats left of it) in my attic somewhere, and was a subscriber from '96-'01... but honestly this magazine became useless for me in the post-N64 era.

For one thing, the internet made most gaming magazines irrelevant to me now that I didn't have to wait to get my gaming info only once a month, but still even up to the launch of the GC Nintendo Power was still a great magazine with some of the best "scoops" around for everything Nintendo. But post N64 it seemed to take on a much more kid-friendly slant, becoming the unofficial Pokemon magazine at times. I gave up on it sometime around 2002-2003 I think.

I remember how awesome it was to get a new copy and when you were done with it the cover on the spine would show a picture that would help chronicle the magazine and be nice to have your magazines on a shelf instead of a drawer. I thought they would have gotten many more subscribers with the success of the Wii, but I guess you need to be partnered with a retail store in order for your magazine to survive nowadays.


Most of those people who bought the WIi are not hobbyists, so they really wouldnt care about a magazine one way or the other especially if they can get that info faster on the internet for free. 

Sucks, but it was bound to happen, its a testament that it had lasted this long, especially competing against mags that didnt just cover one company. (i wonder how long Xbox and PS magazines will last)

I was a subscriber from somewhere around issue 60 to about 170. I think they are all still in my parents' basement.
