Forums - Gaming - Why I've Gone Off Gaming

I've gone off games. I think it might be because this gen has lasted way too long to what I'm used to as well as just part of growing up. Not enough hours in the day really and gaming for me at least requires some dedication. I find my self playing tower defence type games at the moment which I find quite simple and relaxing in a way.

My typical day at the moment involves work, gym, shower, eat, read stuff on the net (non fiction of course, usually politically related) and maybe watch something like a documentary or an episode of a series. As you can imagine this leaves little time for gaming. Shame really as I used to really enjoy gaming. I'm sure next gen will give me a gaming boost.

This happens to everyone from time to time. I lost interest at the end of the last generation when I was in college, but my love of gaming was renewed when Halo 3 came out. Before that I lost interest in the 32/63 bit era and then the Dreamcast hit the market and I became hardcore again.

That's the way live is. Don't worry about it. You may think your done with gaming, and you might be, but I think something will pull you back in. Right now I've been playing less games, but Halo 4 looks to put all other games this generation to shame.

I haven't games on my PS3 for months now as it is mainly used for Netflix right now. Probably won't touch it again until either PSASBR or late January with NiNo Kuni.

I blame mobile gaming. Nobody to say "Hey, I want to use the TV now." I just get left alone to enjoy my gaming.

The Wii U says hello

Only if said game on the WiiU supports remote play.

Remote play is one of the things I look forward to most with WiiU.

Remote play as in the WiiU pad can get up on the go and leave the house?  As far as I know, the pad will need to stay near the Wii U system itself.  But, the pad will function as a remote, so if you mean playing games with a remote is remote play, then it will have remote play.

I plan on playing less videogames in college, and hopefully get out of my social shyness habit. It will be difficult...

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

For me it's a cycle. I'll stop playing for a couple of years, then there will be something that brings me back in. Funny enough, Wii Sports brought me back to gaming after a three year hiatus. Since then I have take a few three month breaks when I get into something else, but I keep coming back.

Remote play as in having everything that would normally display on my TV display on the WiiU Pad screen instead. Game could still make use of all face buttons and motion controls.

I would love this feature for all JRPGs as it is difficult to take over the living room TV for the length of time required for those games.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

It happened to me last year, I didn't touch a game for about 8 months then I randomly turned the ps3 on and BAM! I was addicted again :P

hmmm...currently 20 and I've been gaming since I was about 5-6, I've never gone through a long drought of not playing games(except that time I was grounded for 2 months with no gaming) but, their have been times when my gaming was greatly reduced, mostly it has happened after I graduated high school in 2009 and the real-world hit me like a ton of bricks.

but my gaming; mostly my handheld gaming has gone up as I like to watch T.V while playing games; so I get my daily dose of news/knowledge/and comedy while playing games. The only thing that gets me depressed about my gaming is that year after year my gaming backlog grows...I still have games from the PS1 era I haven't beaten...and most of them are RPG's...

I'm 28 and completely stopped playing video games when I was 19. I got back into it when I moved out of my parents' house for whatever reason. The games that sucked me back in are Shadow of the Colossus, New Super Mario bros lately and Final Fantasy IV DS. I generally only have patience for games that I consider top-notch.

And of course the Nintendo e-shop and virtual consoles brought me back.

But honestly, I have this feeling too, and I have to tell myself it's for fun and I shouldn't play if I feel like I'm wasting my time. As a side note, I have most fun playing games after playing outside or a good physical workout.

I am 32 years old. My first experience was playing the Atari 2600 around 3-4. My first REAL gaming experience was in 1986 when I got the NES and played SMB. In that time, I have gone through years of hardcore gaming non-stop and I've gone through periods of no playing at all. It's normal and natural but one thing is certain. Gaming will always be in your blood and you will always come back to it. It's a part of us, the true gamers, and it will never leave.
