The costs is morea than what it's worth in exclusives, also already tried some of the jap releases andim still waiting for japan to support it fully.

For me, it's a combination of three things:
- there is no must-have game yet. There are a lot of games that I would purchase and play if I had a Vita, but nothing yet to push me over the edge to buy a Vita
- waiting for a price drop. The current price of a Vita + memory card is more than I'd want to spend for the amount of use I'd get out of it
- I wouldn't have much free time to play it. I haven't even had much time to play my PS3 lately.

Just wanted to get a general consensus of this.

Ok let me teach you something about polls that is vital for them to be representative. The options have to be mutually exclusive. Many of the options you give dont exactly exclude other options.

My reason personally is: Not enough games and too pricey.

Only 2 games i would get if i had it would be Ys4 remake wich isnt out yet and Wipeout 2048 wich im unsure of cause its said to have atrocious load times.

250 for the system + 50 for a memory card = 300 + games... for one that might not be a very good version of the series and a short but fun RPG? Yeah, not gonna happen, at least for now.

I also got a 3DS, wich has fire emblem coming early next year, most probably monster hunter and even nintendo games look appealing (luigis mansion and paper mario).

They fixed those load times, but yes they were long when it released. I think it was something like 1 min 20 secs to start playing, now I think its 30 to 40 secs. Oh and it got a price drop, $19.99.

Thought I now everyone wants a large memory card, 16gb/32gb, you should consider snaging the next bundle you see. Not only will you get a game like LBP, CoD:BO:D, or AC3:L there will be a memory card. Probably only a 4gb but it will atleast hold you until memory prices go down or a sweet deal comes by. You can always stick to retail games or manage digital titles by deleting ones you aren't playing (you can always redownload them)

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Well there's your answer. You have 70 games and 20% are new IPs, that's 7 games. If you have 200, that's 20.

The real reason for the "no games" argument is that while you and others may not be keen on Nintendo franchises like Mario and Zelda, (even I'm not if it's on a portable) a huge number of people are, hence something like Mario Kart 7 will have much more draw power than say, Wipeout on Vita. They say "no games" but what they mean is "not enough big name games."

What I find unfair is that the Vita is expected, less than a year into its lifespan, to measure up to the 1.5 year old 3DS. The Vita needs time to grow.

understandable. Yet another thing to take note of. The actual sellers for both systems are already established IPs. The rest are only mildly good. You see New IPs designated for handheld are games like Imagine for 3DS and Little Deviants for Vita. These games are only kinda good, and alre also full of trash games that no one really likes. I could argue the 3DS(just as the DS was) has a far bigger ratio of these than Vita. In other words most of these new IPs are shovelware anyway that no one is buying, they just pad the game count.

So to me it is looking like price of the system is key. So would it be fair to say that Sony has about 2million people waiting in the wing for a price drop and almost another 2million simply waiting on games?

I would like it if Sony would at least tap into the 2mill waiting on that price drop sometime this year. It would be very foolish to let this Christmas season go by without one.

can you explain the maths to me?

I am not the best at math and algarithms, correct me if I am wrong....

  • I can assume that with everyone voting these are hardcore gamers, at the very least gamers who stay in the "know".
  • Due to Sony's faulty advertising we know that the above are the main people buying, no one else really knows about it.
  • So in the poll there is an option for if you actually own a Vita
  • I am seeing the trend is that those who own a Vita and those who are waiting mostly for price drop trend around the same amount
  • so if about 2.5mill people bought it, at least that much is immediately waiting in the wing for the PD on it.
  • More Games trends slightly less, so slightly less people are affected enough to buy than price drop.
  • Thats why I put the option of "I own a Vita" there in the first place.
This is most assuredly not full proof math by any standard but I think it might hold up. Thoughts?

well let me be honest.. it ain't hacked yet..

*wags finger at you in disgust*

I had 2 modded PSPs though so I can't really judge. The modding is actually what caused sales spikes in the systems (but killed game sales). I played a few great choices from GBA on my PSP and kids would be like "WOW HOW ARE YOU PLAYING POKEMON ON A PSP!??!?!" and I'm all like "Immunities baby....immunities!"

Yet when you think about WHY people were modding it in the first place, it was because they wanted apps and the like and unique funtionalities that Sony refused to give them. It became apparent that modders were far more efficient at making apps than Sony was. They are the main reason Sony built Vita with apps in mind and are starting the PS Mobile initiative. I won't pretend it also wasn't so you could play pirated games and emulate old stuff.

If Sony could only find a way to emulate older systems again without giving modders the same power to pirate THEIR games...........

I don't find my option there. I want to buy it but haven't been able to gather the money. No I don't think its too expensive and I'm not waiting for a price drop.

even though you don't really think it is too expensive, you do have limited funds. So if Sony were to give a price drop that would be most likely to put it within your range of purchasing. Am I wrong?

Put too expensive.

This pool shows that the average vgchartz user has nothing in common with the average video games user. 25% voters already has a Vita, another ~25% is only waiting for a price drop to buy it, and ~20% is waiting for more games. Watching those results, everyone would reach to the conclusion that Vita is/will be a huge sales success, but we know it is completely false.

Another plausible explanation is that vgchartz users lie a lot. Pools in this forum are meaningless.

You sound surprised at this. Or upset, I can't tell.

I'm not upset at all, I'm mostly amused that the difference is so huge. This should remember us that most users look for different things in a console than the average forum user, and Sony or any other manufacturer commits a huge mistake trying to please mostly the core users, as they are a small fraction of the complete userbase. Core users are the ones making more noise, but they aren't the ones who can make a console a sales success.

I did take what you said into consideration before even making this Poll. I realize the VGC userbase is not indicative of the entire market. Yet they are more indicative of people who already own a Vita and see themselves as Gamers. This would be the hardcore the Vita more so targets anyway. I think the data is still very useful(barring anyone is really lying).  It seems Sony is only tapping into a 3rd of immediate fanbase from the data. Which means with a few more big name titles and the inevitable price drop, Vita could be at 6-7mil already. Games of course are hard to quantitate due to different tastes but what HAS become apparent is that the # of games needed to sway a buyer in/decreases with the actual amount they Pay for the device(Meaning people demand from something they feel they spent a lot of money on).

So key point, a Price Drop would at its very least get Sony and the Vita out of the neck of the woods and put it on stable ground.

Your maths is correct but imo the rationale for your extrapolation is wrong and this poll is not indicative of anything. I'd say there are far more waiting for a price cut that the number you say.
