Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Can Do “1080p Without Breaking A Sweat”

Nintendo confirmed AC3 and B:AC will be 1080p at launch.
http://wiiudaily.com/2012/07/third-party-wii-u-games-to-run-at-1080p-at-launch/

Yes, it doesn't state 60fps, but there are quotes I saw on various forums (I just don't consider it as a source) that say devs said the final built will be.

Frankly, we have no proof yet as the videos/demos clearly were not, however, those were simply builds that mostly just took the PS360 game and added some new textures and features. The final months will be where all the polishing and optimization occur.

When you consider Nintendo's other statements that they think 720p @60 is better than 1080p @30... and that these games are confirmed from Nintendo to end at 1080p, it is logical to assume that they will also be 60fps otherwise they would have been knocked down to 720p.

Either way, we have at most a month before the beginning of Wii U's real marketing and full clarification of features. This will of course include 3rd parties boasting the various levels of resolution they have achieved. Personally, I think we'll see a bunch of 1080p @ 60 whereas PS360 are pretty much only 720p @ 30 or worse.

If they could get 1080p for even games like NSMBU and Nintendo Land it'd be relatively satisfied but that doesn't seem to be the case.

They can. Nintendo chose not too for their own titles as it would be added cost with no benefit. All first party will be running at 1080p natively however.

You just said:

1) Nintendo isn't making their own titles 1080p due to cost.

2) All first party games will run at 1080p natively.

I'm confused.

If I reworded it the way you did, I would be confused too.

Can you restate your post in a more explanatory way? I'm literally confused here on what this all means. Is Nintendo making all first party games run at 1080p?

Your intepretation "due to cost."

My statement "unecessary added cost"

That should clear things up.

no matter what spin you put to clarify it the fact is.

"All first party games will run at 1080p natively."

All and will in that sentence only mean one thing. So that sentence already is false since Nintendo's launch games will be in native 720p.

Everyone, check out this video.  Bottom line:  Batman and Assassin's Creed 3 in native 1080p on WiiU is confirmed.  AC3 at 60fps... maybe, maybe not (and this rumor may have extended to Batman as well).  So even if the 60fps ends up being false, nobody here is entirely wrong:

1st party was a typo. I meant 3rd party. Otherwise, I wouldn't have said that they would all be 720p, obviously. Also, it was stated in the news articles I posted so it really doesn't make sense to keep begging this after that anyway.

If all of you insist on making that big of a deal about it. Then to clear it up once and for all. 1st party games will be 720p at launch and 1080 after. All 3rd parties that have confirmed resolutions have stated that they will be at 1080p and the word from developers themsleves is that Arkham City and Assasins Creed will be 1080p at 60 fps.

Is that a problem with you?

Ah, thank you. I was genuinely confused but I'm glad this has finally been cleared up. I kind of wish Nintendo had gone the extra step to make their own titles display in 1080p. =

Does this mean Nintendo are lazier than 3rd parties or what? Why don't they display in 1080P?

They:

1) Don't feel the extra cost is worth the display resolution when they assume most consumers won't notice or care

2) Had to rush their release titles and decided to skimp in resolution

3) Something else I haven't thought of

Either way it show's Nintendo's dedication to the needs of the hardcore gamers made a console they don't yet feel like fully utilizing themselves.

It is also entirely possible that Nintendo's tools are not as mature as many third party developers because they didn't develop for the HD Twins in the previous generation, and developing features in these tools took a priority over optimization due to time constraints associated with releasing games for launch.

The guy may know something about hardware. But he made me facepalm about how he trivalized porting the porting between 360/WiiU. He may not of meant it but there would be somechanges nessary to make it run on the WiiU since you need to change between DirectX and OpenGL but since the engine being used in both is UE3 all that will need is an engine change out. But that is my beef with the video but that is getting into more of the programming side of things.

Being that both games run on the Unreal 3 engine, which runs on XBox 360, PS3, PC, Linux and Mac OS, and that it is rendering through OpenGL on many of these platforms (PS3, Linux and Mac OS at least), I suspect porting the games is probably far less difficult than you think ...

I am hoping for some hd remakes in 1080p, Wind waker I am looking at you!
