And a single 3 letter word in that letter is to blame for all that hate and predjudice, the word being...

'GOD'

GOD and the bible is surely responsible for more hate, prejudice, intollerence and evil than anything else EVER in the history of mankind!

More people have died in the name of atheism than by the name of God. Numbers hardly lie.

Nobody died in the name of atheism. Or did someone made an atheist crusade or an atheist burning of witches or an atheist inquisition? What you mean is, that religions aren't the only ideologies, that cause harm. Facism, Stalinism, Maoism and so on had many victims. Although these ideologies weren't religious, tehy didn't claim they had to kill you because they are atheists.

Exactly. I'm sure if we totalled the casualties of all wars fought by people of faith, but not *because* of their faith, across history, the numbers would blow the numbers of "deaths caused by atheists but not because they're atheists" out of the water.

Only a fraction of those jailed or imprisoned by the Eastern Bloc were because of faith. Most of it was just politics.

yet another fully horrible example as to WHY I hate religion at its core.

You're still cute in your vendetta against atheism.

Read what I wrote, I said I hate RELIGION, not that I hate THE RELIGIOUS.  the people aren't an issue at the core of the problem, it's the inherently flawed belief system that's a problem.  Yes, some people use this flawed belief system in a horrible way, and they are horrible people for it, but I don't hate all religious people.  you clearly have an agenda.  I've explained this to you dozens of times.

Their side of the story is that they hate their daughter for something she has no control over. They are supposedly "saddened" by the fact that she's made this "regrettable decision," when, at it's core, it's a by-product of hate. It is not her choice to be gay, but their choice to hate her for it, and if enough gay-disowning parents were *actually* sad about having to do what they did, they would stand up to the church for spreading such bile in the first place, but in the end they cry merely to excuse themselves, as if an expression of regret actually absolves anyone of guilt.

That's your  interpretation of it because that's all you see in a video. A more descriptive take on this would hopefully show you you're horribly wrong.

Parents don't always, actually I would think rarely ever do this kind of thing out of hate and it is an extremely painful decision. The fact that you view it this was is absolutely unsurprising. Hence why I advocated for dramatization of the other story to help people like you understand how wrong you are.

No, they just killed you because you were theist. That's like saying ''KKK didn't lynch people for being black, they lynched them for not being white''

In your world, people choose what sex to be attracted to. In your world, it is natural for a father to block all connections with his son because of a supposed decision that won't harm anyone at all. In your world, any father would be ashamed if its offspring was gay.

That's sadder than I can describe.

You use that sentence alot. If he's wrong show it to him gently. Guilt trips do not work, just so you know. That might not be your intention but that's how it comes across, to me at least.

How exactly am I supposed to show him that he's wrong? Am I supposed to say: "You know, that part in the Bible stating that homosexuality is a sin can easily be ignored."

It doesn't work that way. He would need to understand (somehow) how it feels to be gay in a situation like James'. The thing is though that he think people like James choose to be gay while ignoring the word of God, and the supposed family pride, or whatever it's called.

I didn't expect him to go: "Man, he is right. That is a very sad world I'm describing.", I just wanted wanted to express my opinion on the matter and hoped that just a tiny bit of guilt would rise. Whether I failed or not is irrelevant.

I disagree. I think that most religions (at least in their basis and at the time of their foundation) preach peace, love and tolerance. Its the people themselves that corrupt that and abuse it for their personal greed and power. Religious institutions were also guilty of this

The nazis and commies didn't kill in the name of atheism. They killed in the name of Germany (Their ideological vision of it) and in the name of communism.

Grow up and stop spreading misinformation.

It would only help the gay-rights cause to see the other end dramatized. What sense would it make to see a film where a child makes a completely inoccuous declaration, and the parents decide they have to do something really drastic like disown them. That's the sort of thing that wicked (or misguided) parents in children's movies do.

No people are brought up to be attracted to the opposite sex, it's the normal way of life like being brought up to not cause crime. Of course a father would cut off their son, a son is a fathers pride and joy, you want them to grow up to have a normal life, get married and have kids. Imagine the fathers embarrassment now if his friends find out his son was gay.

No parent wants their offspring to turn out gay.

You must have not seen the movie Brave, where the audience is called to simpathize with an overly demanding mother.

Yes it would help the gay-rights cause, but not in the way you think it would (to further a hateful agenda where occuring). It would help them to actually attain what they really want: reconciliation. If not, why would we be talking if they didn't care?
