Forums - Sales Discussion - Media Create & Famitsu Japan Sales: Week 31, 2012 (Jul 30 - Aug 05)

DQ did great, but not spectacular, Mario did poor (all hopes on digital sales now), Pokemon is showing great legs, Brain Age could still do alright, 3DS HW is good, but I expected better and Wii HW is through the roof. If PS3 didn't have a couple of big games coming up WiiU wasn't releasing, I'd say all bets were off on PS3 vs. Wii for the year.

FFIX is over ten years old guys. It was the first MMO on consoles and a PC version was already announced.

And MMOs weren't quite as popular back then.

They really can't be compared.

then let's compare it against a Modern console MMO... let's see... DC Universe Online week 1  WW 152k.... Yep DQX looking good...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

3DS releases for next weeks

Zero - next ones just on August 30 - Senran Kagura and SMT Soul Hackers

Vita releases for next weeks:

08/09 - Orgarhythm - Prediction 5k

08/23 - Special Reporting Division - prediction 8k

Not much new releases compared to previous weeks

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

Horrible for mainline DQ, it probably won't cross 600k.

It's an MMO.  Doesn't matter if it's DQ.

Let me ask you this:  Was Final Fantasy XI a flop?

SE shipped 630,000 copies of FFXIV but they still lose money. :/

FF XIV has problems that DQ X doesn't seem to have, and likely a larger budget.

The sales are good for an MMO.

It's not about FW numbers, but more about subscriptions, hence why FFIV lost money, everyone lost interest since it was crap.

And btw I think DQ numbers are amazing! 400k FW! Didn't see that one coming.

And I'm disappointed with NSMB 2. Until Nintendo show us the download numbers, then we can't be sure if it's really a bomba or a success... it's looking to be more of the former at the moment though. Hopefully I'm wrong.

And 3DS LL is great, but not spectacular considering the recent release of NSMB 2. Brain Training, well it's alright, but again nothing special. I just hope we get more data online!

You killed my thread, NiKKoM. Oh well...

Dragon Quest and Mario are doing good from my predictions, of course this doesn't count digital sales. Even with digital, I think Mario is around 750k or 800k. Estimating.

Vita doesn't need a bump, it needs a system seller. Hatsune Miku isn't going to do it. TGS is critical for it.

With DQX those numbers are quite good considering it's an MMO.

That said I never really ever understood why Square-Enix didn't take an extra few months and add in a lot more single player content.

That way maybe you sell maybe an extra 1-2 million copies to people who just want a offline DQX, and you still get the subscribers too.

I think some type of hybrid between a regular DQ + DQ MMO in one package could've cleaned up.

Because that game sucked and was universally panned to the extent that Sqauare had to issue an official apology to fans.  But you didn't answer my question so I'll ask you again:

Was Final Fantasy XI a flop?

How do you think Senran Kagura and Soul Hackers will do? Soul Hackers just recently got an update. An extra dungeon unlocks after you clear the game with other Devil Summoners like Kyouji Kuzunoha from Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner. Raidou Kuzunoha is in the Nintendo 3DS version… actually make that two Raidous.

Also, Senran Kagura seems like a stable franchise in Japan with a good fanbase. They are doing some good promoting for it, like that cafe.
