Forums - Sales - Updated: Global Hardware and software UP! (28th July '12) - 3DS dominates, Vita falters

im with whoever said Vita needs a price cut. Why does it seem like some people take this as an offense? Whats the issue here. I just dont thing that much people are willing to spend 250 on a dedicated portable gaming device. They didnt for 3ds they arent for the Vita, simple.

Problem is, if Nintendo took such a financial hit with a premature price cut, how does Sony will be affected with one too - especially since the Vita is obviously more expensive to make than a 3DS. It was Nintendo's first loss ever, and while they could take it, it was still a lot! Imagine if Sony loses the same (or more) on Vita's performance only + all the other losses in red divisions.

But it HAS to have one, I agree. It can't just be under 50% of its original forecasts, it would be catastrophic.

Vita needs a price cut now!

I will copy and paste an older post I made:

It doesn't need a price cut to stay relevant if it gets software. A GTA and GT could help out a lot, AC and COD won't do wonders, but they'll give it a boost. The next Uncharted and obviously a Monster Hunter will also do well, but that's pretty far out. Any new IP could be a surpise hit, there are plenty of Sony's first party studios working on Vita games. Oh and Bioshock will release next year. It seems set for the next year and half, it's sales across that time period will make publishers decide whether or not to publish another Vita title. And if major publishers decide not to, a price cut will be needed. But I guess by the end of 2013 they'll be cutting the price no matter what.

A price-cut is needed regardless of how many games come.

Nope, software and bundles will take the average sales each week up. If they don't that is when a price cut is "needed." It doesn't need to match the 3DS in sales, it just needs to do double what it's doing now per week, which is more than doable with more, good software. It's had hardly anything come out for it the last month and it's sold 45k a week (or 2 weeks, however vgc does it), it's got a strong lineup this fall and more announcements are garunteed to come out of TGS and Gamescom so sales will easily double over fall, and get a small boost when some of the larger titles come out.

It's because the PS3 is not BC anymore while the Wii is and the Wii U will be, so there is no need to keep the Wii going but people need to replace their defunct PS2's if they want to keep playing their old games. So which business strategy is more commendable for the consumer? I just love it when a company screws people over and the fans go "You show em Sony, wooohooo!"

1.) Please explain to me how Sony is screwing over consumers because the PS3 isn't BC.

.2.) Your assertion that PS2's are selling because the PS3 isn't BC is flawed. The PS2 sells primarily in developing nations. Places where the PS3 isn't affordable. So even if the PS3 was BC, the PS2 sales would still be strong in poorer nations, because the PS3 has very little presence there.

1.) It was an exaggeration. They may not exactly screwing people over with this, but it is no doubt less consumer friendly than other competitors handle this situation.

2.) I didn't say that the PS2 selling the way it does is only because of the BC isuue, but it's a factor. I myself have a defunct PS2 in my closet and a wall full of PS2 games. I know I will need to replace this PS2 WITH ANOTHER PS2. This will not be the case if my Wii breaks sometime in the future because there will be an alternative. That is all I'm saying, don't blow this out of proportion here.

The biggest problem is more so the laser failing than the console itself. I know Ive had several ps2 nows because of lasers failing.Hence why I think consoles should not backup as dvd player lol. Because the laser burns out quicker.

I wish cartriges survived. My NES, SNES, N64 all still work lol.

Whatever you say!

I guess we'll have to wait.

A 2-day sale, also combined with the digital sales factor, is smaller than the DS counterpart. Woe is Nintendo...

Dunno what to display here, soon I'll know what to put.

Glad you agree at least about the "plumber queen" bit!

I agree with what Savior is saying. Why is Nintendo just going at this half hearted? I know you are happy with the 3DS Oniyide, but obviously I am not alone in the thought that it is lacking in the West. They need to get some games out. It already has the system sellers, but now it needs other reasons to buy the 3DS. No one wants a handheld for just a few games. You may only end up playing a game or two, but in your mind you are saying, "I want variety, and a lot of options". The 3DS is not doing that here in the West. Also I want to be treated the same as Japan and Europe by Nintendo. I am sick of games going to Europe first or games not leaving Japan at all. If America is treated right we are going to be the ones to give Nintendo the sales, but they do not seem to care at all. They give us a hype busting E3, the XL last, Mario Last, Heroes of Ruin last, etc. So I agree with Savior that Nintendo's strategy sucks right now. Stop dumping on the 300 plus million possible customers in America Nintendo and give us some surprises. I blame Reggie. I never realized it, but it must be his fault. Why else are we not getting games in America? Why are we still waiting for The Last Story and Pandora's Tower? He is in charge of NoA and he is failing big time! I would not be surprised if we got the Wii U after everyone else.

The light has dawned upon another man. May you grow old in age and may your bosom flourish. :P

It's quite a sad precedent Nintendo seem to have set for future systems by slashing the price of the 3DS so early.  Now anything that doesn't take off within the first 6+ months needs a price cut and nothing else.  Not games, not bundles, not features, just a price cut, because that's what the 3DS did.  Ugh.
