im saying its irrelevant by now, the system is still young and in the future we could see devs using the touch panel in a significant way, every added features are always welcome....still it hasnt been used in a relevant way...well i dont know about Escape plan, but thats just one game, and a couple of games dont justify the inclusion of that feature imo....still soon, well see..

i really dont see how a rear touch pad could be more appealing than the glasses free 3D to anyone...

I think this comparison is poor.

3D largely defines what the 3DS is, I mean it's in the name, it's the "gimmick" if you will, and I don't mean that negatively.  Whereas the rear touch pad on the Vita is just a part of its controls.

Is it fair to speculate about the likelyhood of Vita failing now?

It's a shame that there isn't any coherent sales graph for less succesful systems like the Saturn or 7200. It would be interresting to see if Vita is following the same pattern or if it's doing better.

Not quite yet.

The line-up was supposed to dominate, when it didn't, it was Gravity Rush and Persona 4 that would save it, that didn't happen. Resistance: Burning Skies got mixed in there as well as MSG: HD Collection and Mod Nation Racers as possible "killer" softwares. But sales never materialized. (Uncharted still best selling title BY A MILE.)

Now it's LBP & CoD that will supposedly save it. If that DOESN'T happen, then yes, Vita will be an epic failure sales wise (and not just compared to 3DS).

It's needs a price cut yesterday.

A price cut will only help temporarily if the games aren't there.

I just want tomorrow to come, that's where discussions can really start. Hopefully VGChartz will update soon.

@Pezuz

I, for one, HATE the 3D Glasses. Every time that I go to the movies, I have to pray that the version of the movie that I'm going to watch doesn't have 3D, or else I'll be nearly puking in the end of it. I'm not joking, this is the kind of headache that I have when I try to use those 3D glasses. But, when I'm playing my 3DS games, the only headache that I've had was when I tried playing Face Raiders while I was drunk. And it was just a mild headache, I didn't even need to gargle some aspirin to get rid of it.

I do agree that the backtouch in PSVita is a cool inovation. But, in my sick, twisted mind, the best application would be to sex games, and I kinda doubt that Sony would release something like that hahaha

And I'm a 3DS enthusiast, but I'm REALLY concerned for Vita's situation. The innovation (by copying - and somehow trying to improve - the concept of DS) is there, but I guess that it won't be enough. The REAL problem concerning Vita right now is what people already stated here: they must separate the feeling of playing something that you already played in your PS3 on your Vita, and they are still struggling to do so.

And give it a break: since 3DS released the Glasses Free 3D, laptops and smartphones are trying to mimic the 3DS "gimmick", so it's REALLY relevant. Maybe you're not attracted to it, but a lot of gamers (the old and the new) are, and it INDEED is an innovation. It will surely have some flaws, because Nintendo was the first one to try this. Other companies will do better, that's also true, but the concept was something to note for future generations.

Even it you don't like it (I'm not accusing you to be a Sony Lover, although sometimes what you say states it to me) the 3DS is a great platform, and these numbers are stating it every passing month.

Dunno what to display here, soon I'll know what to put.

The CoD release on Vita is going to be interresting to follow.

I dont know what websites you frequent, but I dont think anyone in their right mind thought that Modnation or MGS HD would do anything for the system. LBP either.  COD only if it doesnt suck. And Persona 4 did give it a boost in Japan.

The 3DS needs software just as badly as Vita does. For the 2nd year straight, Nintendo is relying on a Mario to keep sales above 'subpar', while bringing nothing else of value over from Japan or by releasing timed-exclusive games for the West. Nintendo of America has been absolutely terrible for going on 3 years. To be honest, even if Japan's major hits would not sell more than 250k here, that is still ~250k Nintendo is not making profit from.

I personally haven't purchased a 3DS and do not plan on it because of this. Their strategy just screams tired.

The best-selling 3DS game in the West released this year is Kid Icarus: Uprising. Not a Mario game. Not a timed exclusive. Next in America is Resident Evil, a 3rd-party title. Soon, Kingdom Hearts 3D will join those two.

So far this year, Nintendo has released only a single Mario game in the West, and it hasn't sold very well. What's keeping the 3DS "above subpar" is mostly strong third-party support. The console would continue selling "above subpar" for the rest of the year without Mario games; instead, it will sell like hotcakes.

As of NoA, I am aware of only one first-party 3DS game that isn't being localized this year: Fire Emblem. It's coming next year, so hold your horses. NoA doesn't decide what games get localized, anyway; NoJ does.

You know exactly what I am talking about. It is clear as day that Kid Icarus will not be responsible for selling 3DS this year. That responsibiltiy lies on NSMB2. By timed exclusive, there are games in Japan like Monster Hunter 3G and the aforementioned Fire Emblem that are available in Japan, but nowhere else. The West needs a major game to release in the same fashion, but that game is Mario again in 2 weeks.

MK7 and SM3DLand released late 2011

But those two games you mentioned are not popular in the US anyway, they never were. I dont think MH or FE boosted any hardward when released in the US, so how do you expect those to help out 3DS if released in the US?? Whether they get released day and date of the Japanese ones, is irrelevant if most people dont care.   What 3DS needs more of is the games that made DS real popular, it already got the Mario Kart which is doing well. Nintendogs didnt do much, needs a cooking mama and Pokemon

Vita needs a price cut now!

I will copy and paste an older post I made:

It doesn't need a price cut to stay relevant if it gets software. A GTA and GT could help out a lot, AC and COD won't do wonders, but they'll give it a boost. The next Uncharted and obviously a Monster Hunter will also do well, but that's pretty far out. Any new IP could be a surpise hit, there are plenty of Sony's first party studios working on Vita games. Oh and Bioshock will release next year. It seems set for the next year and half, it's sales across that time period will make publishers decide whether or not to publish another Vita title. And if major publishers decide not to, a price cut will be needed. But I guess by the end of 2013 they'll be cutting the price no matter what.

A price-cut is needed regardless of how many games come.
