So their estimates were a little high as well... does this show a negative at all?

Apple has managed to create such an amazing image and hit such a sweet spot in the world of tech. It's amazing how far a smooth and tight interface can drive you to the top of the field.

Better than expected for the iPad, not so for the iPhone. People probably waiting for it's 5th iteration.

For reference, iPad was around 9 million in the year-ago quarter. iPhone, around 20 million.

Edit: Also, Mac basically treading water at 4 million units.

I'd say iPhone growth is definitely slowing. iPad... where she stops, nobody knows.

ARPU for the iPad plunged from $650 last year to $540. That's a combination of the new iPad 2 price point and special deals for education and other bulk purchases.

iPhone ARPU has also been squeezed from $655 to $625 as the 3GS and the 4 take up more iPhone sales.

Goes to show why big unit growth doesn't always translate to the bottom line.

Well that low sales is thx to them taking so long for Iphone 5.

$2bn off the estimate. Apple is doomed.

Seriously that is remarkable considering the global economy.

Iphone sales are relative to new releases. The have not been a major iphone upgrade for a while.

When the new revision iphone5 is release current talk of iphone sales slowing will seem stupid.

Insane iPad sales! Imagine if a console sold that many units in a quarter. :0

Heres an interesting graph:

Oh yeah, and they sold 4 million Macs and 6.8 million iPods.

It's the second time in 10 years that they have under-performed analysts expectations, but it's nothing to worry about as it's mainly due to the fact that people are holding off on buying the iPhone 4S in anticipation of the impending iPhone 5 release.
