Forums - Nintendo - Tekken for Wii U will feature “Nintendo-like” modes

This already makes its the best version of the game.

The upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U fighting game will have “Nintendo-like” modes, according to Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada. Speaking to GamesRadar, Harada said that while the core gameplay mechanics will be the same as in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, the Wii U version will have features that are tailored to the GamePad tablet controller. This isn’t the first time Harada made comments about the Wii U — earlier this month he claimed that the Wii U CPU is underclocked, and that the Wii U GamePad controller is “distracting” in fighting games.

“There are going to be some modes that will be interesting, because they are very Nintendo like”, Harada said. He added that part of the Nintendo-like game mode was already shown at E3. He explains how at preview event at E3 back in June, players saw a mushroom drop down, which made one of the characters bigger as he ate it (referencing to Super Mario, of course). Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be released this September on the PS3 and Xbox 360, while the Wii U version will launch with the console, most likely in November.

Nintendo modes will be a make-or-break for Tekken on the Wii U. If implemented well similar to the power-ups of Smash Bros, and not overused then I see an appeal to this. Sadly, I'm skeptical. Talks of "Nintendo Modes" is nearly comparable to how developers took Wii's motion controls, a gimmick.

If they mess up the Wii U version, I would have concerns about Namco involvement in Smash Bros. What the heck do they mean by Nintendo-like? It sounds condescending and gimmicky.

Phrasing it that way makes me wary. We could be looking at Tekken Tag Tournament: All Play or something to that effect.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

"nintendo like mode" mmmmm
paper mario-ish?
a mario costume for heihachi?
a super smash bro-ish fighting style with tekken characters?
pit's costume for aliza?
mii tekken?
princess peach's costume for nina or lili?
link as a character? :O
ok my imagination is as dry as sahara right now... but i would see a lot of "gimmicky" comment... well guess what, i love gimmick... take my money!

This is exactly what popped into my head as well.  I'd rather have no Tekken game at all if this is what we are going to get.

Poor choices of words.
The question is who: the developers or the translators?

Tekken is my favourite fighting game series and I play it hardcore. Although Im a Playstation fan, Im sad to hear things like "Nintendo" mode which means the game will be dumbed down.

Probably a very easy mode when u win in 1 hit, or waggle the wiimote to execute just-frame moves/difficult bound/tag combos. Or programming a combo/justframe move on a button.

I'd rather they leave TTT2 intact for the Wii U as it is meant to be played like in the arcades/PS3/Xbox360 and stop treating Nintendo fans like kids who demand easy casual mode. I'm sure there are Nintendo fans who want to play a fantastic and wellmade hardcore fighting game without all the stupid gimmicks.

No wiggle waggle. just 100% pure hardcore and awesome tekken.

And I can still remember reading somethign where u press pause in a Nintendo game and it will play by itself when the gamer finds the game too difficult. I hope what I read was a stupid rumour. If they did something like that for TTT 2 I'd fly to Japan and slap Harada in the face lol.
