I can definitely see Sony pricing the 16GB (or 160GB if it was a typo) for 179.99, seeing as the PS2 was at the price point a few years ago. However, I think it would make more since to go with $199 and $249 for the other models. $229 and $279 just seems like a weird pricing model to adopt. Then again, they may want to up the profit margin on the new model. I still have a feeling it will be $199 and $249, though.

Aug14th at gamescon is my guess.

It comes with two Halo 4 printed controllers (with an AWESOME LED blue light ring), a Standard Edition of Halo 4, and exc;lusive DLC for buyers of the console). |
So you're thinking all that extra is worth $100? If we assume the regular 250GB X360 still costs $299 by the launch of Halo 4. Guess that makes sense. It's a really good deal though for people who... for people who don't have an X360 yet.
Back when I bought the Halo 3 limited console it cost $399 versus a regular X360 at $349 and it didn't have anything extra. I felt ripped off (all regular X360s were sold out).

Those who want PS Plus will get 250gb version anyway. Or they can always upgrade HDD later on.

wht!!! i don't get a where have you been, how ya been, or a wht the wht, where the hell you came from??? well it's nice to now i wasn't missed. i'll stay gone for a bit longer to see if i'll be missed then lol.
naw it isn't bad, the external is just another option. i have to ship my PS3 off to get it fixed cause certain games(UC3, Resistence, Metal Gear gun's) won't play in it. it's going to cost $100, so i may just wait, and trade my slim in for the new one.

I think the people buying the 16gb PS3 won't be the people subscribing to Playstation Plus for the most part. And the people that will use the service using that PS3 will either replace the HDD or get an external HDD. It's a good way of getting the price down and having a clear entry model.
yes but sony probably would want anyone and everyone to subscribe to ps plus, sort of how everyone is subscribed to xbox live.. PS plus is a tremendous deal.. and it really is a rip off to sony mostly..

Wouldn't this make more sense?
16GB: $150 (they should be able to pull this off if there's only 16GB in it)
250GB: $199
500GB: $250
Pricing seems odd.

They're already losing marketshare... they couldn't justify not doing a price cut vs a PS3 model w/ Bluray, free online, AND 4x the storage. |
And so what? What is now the difference? If they cut the price and sell 2m consoles more it will change nothing when there is almost 70m X360 on the market already. Sony will be bleeding money just to make totals the same as X360 and in the same time Microsoft will be making tons of cash from every X360 sold. It's not like whithout price cut their sales will fall 50% next year.
