Forums - Sales - Once again PS3/X360 gap is less then 2 million

I see the same old usual suspects posting in here and the delusion and denial is at its usual levels, sigh. The simple fact is wether some posters like it or not most of the time retailers like to have more Xbox360's in the retail chain than Ps3's and that's been proved time and time again over the years when comparing sold data FROM ALL SOURCES to shipped data. And now with the new super slim Ps3 coming out at the end of August there will be an even lower amount of Ps3's in the retail chain as Sony/retailers will be clearing out the old stock, but despite this i expect to see the usual suspects try and claim that the 360 is under tracked whilst the Ps3 is over tracked, double sigh.

The 360 will have a very good christmas (and i guess MS will do a price as well) but despite this because Sony are releasing a new model AND having a price drop earlier in the year than MS, that will counterbalance any 360 gains. By the end of the year i expect the gap to still be below 2 million.

I assume this was aimed at what I said.

As I predicted vgc is about 300k out on the 360 numbers so the gap is already bigger then what vgc has it at. Traditionaly as I said vgc has a habit of undertracking 360 worldwide numbers. They do ok with the US numbers but not so good with the other numbers. The shipment numbers MS post are always higher then what vgc has it at.

Then when ps3 numbers are released they are normally overtracked by around 100k+. So based off of this trend I would take a rough guess that for the next ps3 shipments vgc will again be over on the ps3 numbers. My rough guess on the gap would be around 2.4m right now. Time will say if im right or not.

Nope not just you. However what you are saying is not a fact, it's just your opinion. I have proved time and time again that for this time of year Microsoft normally have between 0.97-1.31 million in the retail chain so Microsoft currently having 1.13 million in the retail chain is perfectly normal. And no, Sony are not 'normally' overtracked on this website, it varies quarter to quarter.

why when it sells less?  are retailers innumerate morons?

You'd have to ask them but for one the 360 is more popular in certain regions than the ps3, who's to say that in those regions retailers like to have more in supply then other parts of the world? On top of that Sony's supply has been a mess on and off now for several years due to:

1. Underestimating the demand for the ps3 slim.

2. Being hit hard by the tsunami that destroyed a large amount of there factories that manufacture ps3's causing low supply.

3. They're about to introduce a new super slim ps3 so there supply will be low again as they drain the current retail chain of the soon to be old ps3 models.

Do people still care about this console war?

Its been about a draw all round. All 3 companies fucked up, and all 3 companies achieved great success.

Even if PS3 does manage to outsell the 360, my understanding is that Microsoft have made more money than them this gen, hardly a stunning victory.

Why again are people so convinced that PS3 is going to outsell 360 this holiday season? Last holiday, 360 mauled PS3. This holiday, 360 has Halo 4 while none of PS3's AAA exclusives are being released until 2013. Even if PS3 does have a price drop, it still has to compete with Microsoft's flagship franchise. Lastly, why are people so convinced that 360 ISN'T going to have a price drop this year?

Resident Evil 6 been 3 years since a main RE game, ACIII bundle, LittleBigPlanet Karting, All-Stars, Real Slim cheaper price. Halo 4 doesn't sell hardware long term like a price cut, X360 would need one for sure.

I do not believe the 360 will have a price cut simply because of their 99$ xbox 360. Microsoft makes more money this way so I think they will keep the prices high. Microsoft sells more software in general then Sony so they do not have to worry about selling more hardware then Sony in the long run.

All fanboyism aside, people are talking nonsense if they think halo and call of duty won't be system sellers. Halo has proven to be a system seller anumber of times in the past and a limited edition console WILL boost sales quite substantially as most limited edition consoles tend to do. I also think the Xbox will have a price cut and assuming ps3 has no price cut or new model this holiday season, Xbox will sell more (in November/December).

If ps3 wants to match Xbox it has to have a new slim released with a low hardrive, low price model comparable to the 4gb Xbox aswell as bigger hardrive models. Playstation all stars and wonder book are wild cards here I think. With sonys track record of poor advertising most people assume these won't do well, but if marketed correctly, with bundles and good support I think these can be big. Littlebigplanet could also do well if marketed well to the casuals. An Assasins creed 3 bundle should do well too.

If these situations take place for both consoles I can honestly see it being equal. But, no new model ps3 and no ps3 price cut and I think Xbox will win the holidays.

truer words

Microsoft will cut the price and once again kill Sony this holidays.
