No Trophy, no buy.

Steam has acievements.

Yes, but I perdict you will regret wasting your precious gaming hours on Steam achievements and wish that you'd have putted them in hunting Trophies instead.

Why, what's the significant difference?

Because not many gamers care about Steam achievements like they do about Trophies, which bring you a lot of respect.

Isn't that something that comes with time? It didn't happen from one day to the next with Trophies either.

Not sure what gamers you hang with, but I know many who would plead to the contrary. Frankly, no amount of trophy hunting exceeds the thrill of being able to buy games between $2.49 &$9.99 a pop (we're talking highly acclaimed titles too), in addition to having Steam Achievements strapped to many of them.

It basically comes down to preference, but at this point (even being a newbie to the PC), I'd take gaming on it before any console, regardless of the reward system.

I don't know. Yes, PC games are dirty cheap but for me Trophies have made so that I must play everything on the PS3. For example, I really like to play through all the Halo games but since they don't have Trophies I won't bother. Now that's the X360 but it's the same with the PC exclusives I am interested in, like Heroes of M&M 6 and Witcher 2.

Btw, why do you describe yourself as a newbie to PC gaming CGI, when you have mentioned playing through a few PC exclusives such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. through the years?

I hope so but I kinda doubt it. From what I heard the Steam achievements are badly structured compared to console achievements, which also takes away the incentive to hunt for them.

Example: http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/MichaelRose/20100910/5951/Whats_the_Point_of_Steam_Achievements_Anyway.php

Also, a typical PC phenomenon is that there's a lot of guys with a lot of games but very few of them actually play many games. You have some of these on PSN too (who have like 50 games on their trophy list but each has only 2 or 3% completion, I hate those guys lol) but in general the console guys value each individual game much more and dedicate yourself to it, while on PC you own so many that you tend to get overwhelmed.

I've not owned a gaming PC since the mid 90s and even then, it wasn't 100% mine. Also, I've played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky (actually watched it played most of the way through) & Shadow of Chernobyl (feel like this game's atmosphere just on the short time I played it would suck me through the whole game - which is why I asked the community if the entire game is as moody as the few snippets I played / watched), but I never owned any of them..... until this week :P

So, when I say a "newbie" to the PC, I don't mean to playing games, I mean to building my own from scratch. :P

Cool. I kind of thought you already were a semi-hardcore PC gamer basically, and that you while you were planning to build a new rig decided it was a good opportunity to direct all your focus towards it when it comes to multiplatforms. The latter is still correct, right?

What about GPU, have u decided yet? And you're already downloading games off of Steam before having built your new system?

Gotta also love the fact that Steam gives you a choice of what games you want to be on sale the next day.

But haven't you ever dreamed of becoming a Trophy God like KylieDog or badgenome? If you split your efforts on two platforms that becomes possible, especially if you're playing all multiplatforms on PC.

What is your Steam ID? mine is the same PullusPardus

So after doing some research over at systemrequirementslab.com, I was surprised to find my laptop actually has a decent graphics card, considering it's not really intended to be a gaming machine and it's a good 3 years old. It can basically run most games pre-2009, Just can't run the very recent top of the line games like Mass Effect 3, MW3, etc. which is fine by me. Most of the PC games I want aren't brand new anyway. I think at some point I will eventually cave in a pick of a decent gaming pc though.

Just bought Amnesia, Borderlands, and Terraria for a total of 20 bucks on Steam, not too shabby! Should be set for awhile just with those.. Loving these summer deals.
