That's 1 billion versus 210 million for Mario.  (probably closer to 250 now, but my point still stands)

I would say more people associate Angry Birds or other mobile games with gaming nowadays, because the casual audience is so massive now.

Does that make Angry Birds the face of gaming? I thought not.

I stand by my argument, that is "the face of gaming" is something completely subjective and their isn't really a difinitive character.

Because Mario isn't the best video game series, its just the same childish thing each game like Pokemon.

I just played NSMBWii last month after years of thinking like you (it's the same damn thing). When I actually gave it a chance, I ended up liking it alot. So, same is not always bad, sometimes we want more of a given experience, and that's why it's still selling like mad.

Don't even mention Angry Birds besides Mario. The majority of those 1 billion downloads were for free and how much does an Angry Birds game cost, like 5 Bucks? Mario sells hundreds of millions of copies for full price.

Mario is the face of gaming. Nothing comes even remotely close.

I dont usually buy Mario games (think i only bought one - mario sunshine), but they are many and consistantly deliver good quality.

Theres no denying that it is the best franchise there is. Zelda is more to my taste but mario is a more consistant franchise with games coming out.

I wish i could say final fantasy, but after FFX the series went to hell.

Yea, fuck all kiddy games. REAL games have blood and gore and mature themes, so that sophisticated and mature gamers, who aren't insecure about themselves in the slightest can enjoy them.

It is common knowledge that Mario is the most famous video game character in the world. This is fact, even acknowledged by the Guiness Book of Records if I'm not mistaken. Why even debate this? Mario is up there with Mickey Mouse and Darth Vader, an Angry Birds bird won't even come close. Is this regard, THE1's statement is totally justifiable.

Mind, I'm not saying that should be the reason Mario should be considered the best franchise of all-time.
