ACTIVISION would be doomed.

seems unlikely...but who knows...but I don't see this going through without Sony an Nintendo doing some thing to intervene.

But what could they really do?. |
going buy what the article says maybe Sony and Nintendo can buy enough share so that MS won't be able to buy the overall majority

Something like that wouldnt happen. If MS was going to buy them and this wasnt all just rumors, the only way one of the other 2 could stop it would be to just buy them before MS did and maybe at a higher price if MS was already in the process of buying them. But the is no way would the other 2 team up to buy the shares . |
i see...just thinking out loud....but it seems like this deal might be in the early stages, which leads me to think it that this rumor is more false than real as I don't think an aquisition of this size would just slip out, giving a chance for Either Sony or Nintendo to somehow intervene as it seems Sony and Nintendo could probably match the offer given by Microsoft or use some stock/law trickery to prevent this from happening,
I don't think this would kill the competition. I mean not all PS3 owners play CoD.
But if MS is looking for killer apps for the their next platform. This would be a huge move.

I really think the best way MS can get in every living room is if they offer Xbox Live to all platforms and devices. Why not make the retail version of COD exclusive to Xbox and allow other console owners to play the game by downloading through Xbox Live on Playstation and Nintendo WiiU...

Id say do it for the lulz alone :P
But securing COD will do wonders for MS. Sure your missing out on all that Sony version millions in sales but that isnt Activisions problem...it would be MSs, and I got a feeling 10 million on xbox platforms alone is still a nice profit from the developement costs, not to mention all the casuals they will steal away from Sony.

Vivendi may be refocusing on "other businesses", but one has to ask why. It's not enough to just say "Vivendi are getting rid of entertainment subsidiaries, so bye Activision" - you have to provide a reason for them to actually get rid of entertainment subsidiaries. |
that article explains it. too much to post here
| Aielyn said: And I assume that you mean that they have always bought their franchises (please clarify if you meant something else). As for Skylanders, the game series is nowhere near as big as you seem to think. CoD sells over 25 million a year. Skylanders has sold less than 3 million across all platforms, with the majority being on Wii. It does not, at this point, show any signs of getting bigger. If it were up around 5-6 million, then maybe there'd be reason to expect it to become big. To make matters worse, they're already starting to milk it - within about 3 months of the first game releasing, they announced the sequel. They've also got a web game in development, they've released an illustrated novel, and they've openly spoken about the idea of TV shows and movies. Meanwhile, they're mostly big as a toy series, rather than a game series. |
Sorry typo
anyway CoD didn't start out as a 25 million unit franchise. Skylanders toys have constantly sold out and the toys is where they make their money with the franchise which they are looking to expand. Activision make money from every toy sold in case you didn't know...
Plus they have stuff comming up like Bungie, Titan, etc as well.
