Seems microsoft fears the Wii U. If MS will loose as much money with the Xbox3 as with the Xbox360 than it could e the end of the Xbox.

Sorry brah, but the 360 is a profitable undertaking now get your facts right.

The past two years the Xbox360 made a little money. But the years before Microsoft has lost billions of dollar with the Xbox360 and they don't have the slightest chance to get this money back in this console generation.

The point is you know that you are wrong, but just like you troll on German sites, you keep trolling here.

Xbox 360 is profitable since 2008 and recovered all the losses made before. Don't forget 500 million for Nokia, Kin, Zune, WinPhone 7 R&D, WinPhone 8 R&D alle happened in the past years and the 360 almost alone put that division over 1.3 billion USD profit in one year.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

we are talking about the 360 here, which is already profitable if you add 500 million for Nokia, 300 million for Kin, 500 million for Zune HD. Add WInPhone and you get an idea how much money the Xbox 360 really made.

Of course the original Xbox was not profitable.

what does Nokia, Kin and Zune got to do with this? The profits above are the gaming divisions only (from what the original post shows). Microsoft would be well in the Black over all as a company. Otherwise I doubt they still be in the console business with being 6.78billion under for the last 10 years. I am glad these other sides of the buisness can support the losses, as we have recently seen XBOX finally hit a good stride with games and branding identity. Next gen xbox should be real interesting.

that;s fine... they should keep selling xb360 for another 5 years no matter what will be the sales...

There is no such thing like a gaming division at Microsoft. There is the EDD, which includes Zune (cancelled), WIndows Phone (R&D), Xbox and Kin (cancelled) and distribution for office for Mac. The numbers you posted are for the EDD, not Gaming alone!

Hope I could help you out.

straight from MS earnings release just for the last quarter:

"EDD operating income decreased reflecting lower revenue, payments made to Nokia related to joint strategic initiatives (500 million payment I mentioned), and higher other operating expenses. Research and development expenses increased $100 million or 35% (Windows phone 8, maybe Durango), and sales and marketing expenses increased $79 million or 50%, (Windows Phone marketing) primarily reflecting higher headcount-related expenses. Cost of revenue decreased $80 million or 6% primarily due to lower volumes of Xbox 360 consoles and standalone Kinect sensors sold, offset in part by payments made to Nokia."

June 2010:

"EDD operating loss increased primarily reflecting increased operating expenses, offset in part by increased revenue. Cost of revenue increased $251 million or 38% primarily from charges resulting from the discontinuation of the KIN phone"

--> More than 200 million just from the dicontinuation of Kin. The R&D for it etc is not included!
