Forums - Gaming - Crytek conspiracy: Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo against F2P?

Monster Hunter Tri isn't free-to-play--you don't pay a monthly fee, but you are paying $50 to buy the game.

Free-to-play means games like Free Realms where you literally don't pay a cent, and if you want to you can buy in-game items or skills.

Personally, Free-to-play games annoy me, and I hope they don't become anywhere near the norm.

Oh, thanks for explaining!

So, it's like In-App-Purchases?

I think they will open up to F2P if they get $$ in their pockets from the micro transactions.

Microsoft is the only one who is going to be a problem for this in reality. If theres visible profit available for any of the companies I dont think they wont shy away from the idea. Nintendo cant afford not to have free to play.

Personally, I don't like the F2P model. If we look at the mobile F2P games, normally we have a game that is constantly asking you to buy itens. In multiplayer games, you will simply be beaten by players that doesn't have any hability but expend more money in the game. F2P game normally don't try to be good games, they simply try to create a game that makes you buy itens all the time.

Exactly. That's why F2P is so bad and dangerous to gaming.

? That can be said about alot of games, though.

The fact that F2P games aren't usually good games is not a problem within the F2P model, it's a problem with companies only wanting to make a quick buck and not caring about the quality of their game...

Two different things, only reason why F2P sees more of these cheap games is because they're offered for free, and because it's usually made to cash-in with little focus on gaming. But in and of itself it could support a full quality game.

Well, as long as Crytek don't get to dictate how the market moves, I'm fine with it either way.

Actually I never bought a Crytek game. They are the most overrated studio Imo. Too one dimensional have they ever made a game that was not a FPS?
