I think it is a bad idea. Look at Nintendo. They have kept Metroid going for years. Its not like it was a big seller, just a fan favorite.

Instead of just dumping it for twenty years like kid Icarus they should sell it to Nintendo.

Metroid is a constant multi-million seller and a unique experience.

Resistance is a average FPS, a genre with tons of competition.

I'd say Sony get out of a genre that is too full of competition in the first place and focus on unique games from its other exclusive IPs.

Not in the last two installments, i'm afraid. Metroid low sales put in the freezer for a while.

MP sold 2.8m
MP2 sold 1.3m
MP3 sold 1.6m
MOM sold 1.1m (lowest of all home console Metroids)

While it sales less than the other big Nintendo IPs, it still is a very good series with steady sales that bounce up and down depending on the game. I edited the quote in question to be more exact.

Resistance was on a straight downward spiral with every new game. MOM could have done better had it simply had better controls. The wiimote/nunchuck style woudl have been far superior and created better buzz.

Fans just lost interest in Resistance, and that's unfortunate. I didn't buy the first one, got the 2nd and thought it was ok, got the 3rd and thought it was great! I even played the PSP game and enjoyed it as well. But facts are facts, the masses are not buying it. It's unfortunate, but the right thing to do is put the series to rest. Although it tells a great story.

As for Killzone, yeah, I think fan appeal over that is decreasing as well. I enjoyed Killzone 1-3, the psp one sucked. I just think GG is missing such a great opportunity with the setting of Killzone 2 and 3. Placing it on Helghan, they could have done so much more with that. added so much more feeling to the game. Like if the soldiers from vekta (or whatever earth is called in the game) actually roam and fight through helghan streets where helghast civilians are running for cover. If they recognized that aspect of the world, it would have made it more human and added a layer of drama to the whole affair. I mean, the civilians do not deserve you rushing in and destroying their planet. They did get shafted as a people. There are no clear evil/good sides here (I mean, they do make it clear, but the helghast were created out of desparation and dire conditions). GG could have really created a much deeper and interesting lore in the whole story to keep gamers hooked. I think if KZ4 is more of the same, thats a big faux pas on their part.

I'm really sad to hear this, for those of you who say the series couldn't develop into  a universe, Resistance: Retribution and Resistance 2 open up a hole world of possibilities. There are so many story lines they could do with the Cloven, the original Chimera (not hybrids!), the race which the Chimera fought for Earth X many years ago. I even preferred Resistance to Killzone :/

This. While I didn't like the gameplay in Resistance 2 and Retribution (again, they tried to make a COD clone), lots of things were introduced (gray tech, ancient race on earth, the real chimeara, the chimeara planet, European invasion of Russia, Grayson dissapearing). Things that should have been deepened but were almost completely ignored by Resistance 3.

Back when Resistance 2 was announced, they hype for the game was bigger than the hype for Killzone 2 was! But Resistance 2 alienated the FOM fans too much.

I'm not saying Sony should continue the franchise, it's ruined. Although I would like a remake which takes a different route story wise.

Well, at least Sony has Uncharted to battle Gears as their third-person shooter entry, and also has Killzone for FPS. Where does Resistance actually fit as a brand for them?

Smart move. Others will be next. Gotta stay in business!

BOOM!  FACE KICK!

let crytecdevelop the next resistence game

Thay should also ditch Killzone
they are boring as hell imo

I agree.

They have far better franchises they can work with.

Says the Halo fanboy. But this is pathetic, none of you obviously played Resistance 3 or you were too noobish at RFOM or R2 so you vote no, Resistance 3 has one of the best FPS campaigns ever....FOM is going to go down as a classic and R2 is very underrated. One of the best triliogies with some of the best campaigns and best MP when done right(FOM and Resistance 2).

What is this Resistance was 3 great nonsense about? The MP is what made Resistance popular and R3 MP was a gimped experience that tried too hard to be CoD.

No, Resistance has always had great campaigns, play the Resistance 3 campaign and stfu, I doubt you even got the game.
