I thought this was already known. Guess not.

Buying IPs actually. tough not fully owned yet, and might end up as buying a studio.

I think before now, we just all thought of PZ/FF as currently a de facto Nintendo exclusive series (similar to Prof Layton).  Until now, nothing was stopping the series being on a non-Nintendo platform, but for various reasons it would have been unlikely.  Now Nintendo has secured the series.  However, I guess we should have guessed when the boxart art of the PZ2 remake didn't have Tecmo-Koei on it at all:

A WiiU Fatal Frame 5 would be awesome!

Tecmo Koei is one of the few profitable companies around. I doubt they're looking to sell, and if Nintendo were going to buy them, why would they bother buying co-ownership of one of their IPs first?

There were some articles when PZ2 was announced talking about the ownership of the IP, it wasn't very clear then but it was clear that at least the publishing rights were owned by Nintendo. Since then I've assumed Nintendo "owned" the IP.

BTW PZ4 is also Nintendo-only.

There goes my hopes of ever playing a new game in the series again...

Using the Wii U controller as your camera to look around for ghosts would be awesome.

Nintendo already owned the rights to this, and this is purchasing an entire series, not simply making sure their consle have a exsclusive access to a single popular game. This series now sits in the halls of Baten Kaitos, Geist and Xenosaga

So... why does Nintendo want this IP again?
